Daniel Murphy will face live pitching in a batting cage today.
“He’s making progress,” Terry Collins simply told reporters.
Last week, Collins speculated that Murphy could be ready for a Grapefruit League game by next week.
Murphy has been sidelined with a strained intercostal muscle since Feb. 18.

He’s been doing light hitting and fielding, but this all seems to be taking a lot of time. Yet, people still seem confident Murphy will be ready for Opening Day. The Mets say he needs just 10 games or so to be ready, so a return to action towards the end of next week, even the following week, will be plenty of time.
