Daniel Murphy fouls one off

Daniel Murphy back in the lineup

Daniel Murphy has returned from paternity leave, after spending three days with his wife and newborn son in Florida.

Murphy is in Thursday’s starting lineup batting second and playing second base.

He told reporters that he named his son Noah after the biblical Noah and not Syndergaard, in case anyone was confused.

“Syndergaard is the other Noah in my life,” he joked.

Murphy talked to the media about becoming a father and the criticism he’s taken for going on paternity leave.

I love how good he is with the media. I'd tell them "Tell Franscessa I said to l*** my b****!"

I know it's a job, and you have to take it seriously to be good at it. But in the context of having a child, baseball is just a freakin game.

I love that he's a man first and a baseball player second.  A real man puts his wife and children above everything else.  Congratulations Daniel Murphy, you have a beautiful child - the most important thing you will ever do in your life!

As a dad, myself, I applaud Daniel Murphy for being with his wife and newborn child and missing two games.  I am sure Boomer's kids will sleep better tonight knowing their dad places them below an insignificant game.

i am a nyy fan and have never posted on this site but i want to give kudos to the mets & murphy for showing murphy's wife the respect all women deserve when dealing with a birth by being there for her and the new addition to the family.

don't let the neanderthals that criticize get you down they are a rapidly declining portion of our society and that is a good thing.

Good for you Daniel. Noah will be proud to have a Dad that has his head screwed on right and has a  true sense of what is  right. I have lost all respect for Boomer for such a lame comment.

trade him hes a joke not a good ballplayer maybe that's why  hes on the mets

What part of  - 162 GAMES _ don't these guys get!  Baseball is a marathon not a sprint.  If he was out with a bad ankle would you have left the guy alone.  Get over it!  Maybe the ones who are complaining the loudest have something to be ashamed of.  Congrats Dad!!!!

anyone who criticizes Murphy is a big A-hole!! they are many more things to rip this team and its players about, leave the guy alone and let him him enjoy his son for Christ's sake!

The fact that Murphy is taking any criticism for taking Paternity Leave is a joke. The seaon has just started, we're not talking about him leaving during the playoffs. Let alone the fact that this is his first kid. What type of moronic person would criticize any person for that. I wish my place of employment offered Paternity Leave. I had to take a week of vacation. People wanna bust his chops over a couple of days?

What kind of message are we sending to both players and young fans if we criticize players for putting their family first? When a player cannot even take 3 days off, at the very beginning of the season, to be there for his wife and (first) newborn son, without receiving criticism, there’s an issue.

Do your thing, Murph.

I might just become a Mets fan after reading about him taking paternity leave. Taking the time to be there for his wife and child shows his true character. The world needs more men who are willing to do the right thing. Fathers are just as important as mothers in their children's lives.

If Hollywood had a major motion picture about another bible story that was promoted with tons of commercials, we would be talking about Jobe Murphy not Noah.

The amount he gets paid, for the production that results, he should be at every game. Ne excuses

I hope he rips the WFAN crew lead by Francesa. They deserve to be publicly humiliated for their idiocy.

Noah Murphy is a fine name, but an awful lineup predicament, if it's a description. .

Great name! Congratulations Daniel!

Now the middle name, that's just as important.

I'm thinking the boys name should be "Noah Chanceatwinningnninetygames Murphy"

Huh? Huh?

The fact that he needed to clarify that his son was not named after a player he has had very little interaction with is ridiculous. I could understand it if his son's name was David, but Noah? Come on...

PS: Welcome back, Your bat is needed.

You saved me the time of writing that same thing. We need more good fathers and husbands in this world.

@Matt Dignan Mr Dignan, you are very mean spirited individual, its a shame you are Irish like Murphy and myself!

@Matt Dignan  Long time reader of the comments section, but this is the first time I've ever posted here.  You've got to be kidding me.  A father in any field, let alone a guy who plays a game for a living, shouldn't take a few days off of work to attend the birth of his first child and be there for his wife as she recovers?  This whole conversation is silly and I'm not sure what moved me to respond, but c'mon.

@cbbruuno Murphy has too much class and will dismiss it as a normal human being would. Anybody who knows or listens to Boomer knows he is a great family man who made a ridiculously awful remark. He is on the air 1,500 hours a year and deserves a pass as an off-moment.

@cbbruuno  Francesa didn't go as far as Boomer.  He was scheduling C sections.   lol

absltuconn

@cbbruuno they are totally blowing the whole thing out of proportion, since the paternity leave is only 72 hours.  And if I heard right, the delivery was early, so exactly how did Boomer expect her to schedule a c-section?  I like them (B&C, not Francesa), but they're acting like idiots.

@cleonsvan add that other jerk ,Caron to this too, he ripped Murphy for taking off the other day!

Boomer, of all people, should understand the importance of putting family first. His son is handicapped. You'd think he'd have more compassion and understanding.  What a shame...

cbbruuno

@lindro88 @cbbruuno  Agreed he didn't go as far. Boomer's comments were just horrifying and the needs to apologize (if he hasn't already). However, Mike's false claims that it would be for 10 days were absurd and pulled completely out of thin air.

@absltuconn @cbbruuno  I have always liked B & C but this was shocking to listen too. Boomer comments were beyond belief and I hope his wife and daughter sit him (Boomer) down and tell him what a complete a-hole he truly was. He needs to apologize and publicly flog himself (metaphorically at least).

@Gerard McGinnis @Mud Flap  Strong name. Definitely better than my suggestion. Lesson learned: never name your children while at a peak of frustration.

@cbbruuno It was a shocking statement. No need to give the feminazis more ammunition. They thrive on playing victim.
