When curits granderson wakes up from his slump and starts tearing up the baseball and hopefully real soon we will dominate the national league!!

I am curious to hear the qualifications of all those whining about the lineup and roster below. Any high school ball from any of you? Or just 6 years of little league in right field?

Is Stephen Drew interested in playing baseball this season?

The Mets are winning with good pitching, good infield defence and timely hitting. If they could ever get consistant hitting, they could lessen the pressure on the bullpen.

I agree with the Kirk supporters.  He is hitting well and we should see what he can do when Lagares is on DL. Abreu is  a  good off the bench/PH candidate. They should not rush Lagares back or he will spend more time on the DL.

There was a Huge story about how the Mets boycotted the New York Post in the clubhouse after the "Lardball" headline about Colon. Metsblog doesn't post a thing. I thought this was the place to get all the news. Come on guys....

Am I losing my mind?  Wasn't there a report a few days back saying that Lagares WAS running?

ANOTHER DAY TO PLAY BASEBALL, THE PITCHING WILL WIN US THE CHAMPIONSHIP, LIKE 1969!!!!

It may be premature given that we've yet to see tonight's lineup, but it's not inconceivable that Abreu and Granderson could go back to back and belly to belly.

If Lagares is not immediately penciled in as the everyday starting CF upon return...... Well..... I am going to be one unsettled fan!

Terry rewards Kirk's super clutch game saving  double last night by giving the start to a 40 year old over him. Brilliant.

I like Terry Collins, but to be honest there have been enough instances of him saying one thing in the media only to have the other thing almost immediately happen that i'd have been much more worried if he came out and said there was a definite date for him to come back and of course he would be the starting centerfielder on his return.

Terrible OF defense tonight.  Why not Kirk?

Center Field is where Curtis belongs.

The Mets will keep Lagares in Vegas. That's a shame if they do.

TheJMan

they totally will and probably fall in love with playing Abreu every other day

@Victor Triguero  Why are they holding him back? Is that one of those creepy moves to save money again?

How is Kirk hitting well? Before the double last night he had not got a hit since his first game. Also he had his shot last year and struck out too much. He's still striking out a lot this year too.

@nhmetsfan  He's not tearing it up either. I'm sure he'll play-at least as a defensive replacement for Abreu. But I'd rather get three ABs from Abreu in an RBI spot in the lineup.

That would be nice.

@Macacawitz I'm truly convinced that the people who find Sterling amusing are the same ones who are giving Kevin Hart a lucrative career.

@upstaphan Especially when that 40 year old is a way better hitter than Kirk. The nerve of him.

@upstaphan Kirk has a clutch pinch hitting performance and Terry decides maybe he will be useful again in that role. What a maroon.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@hubie_wc    Kirk is more versatile than Abreu.  He can pinch hit, pinch run, play all 3 OF positions...

hubie_wc

@drmetfan  What are you smoking?  There is no way he is not recalled once healthy.

Stosh Ilford

@90wins No, it's one of the creepy "rules of the game".  He's on the 15 day disabled list, he's not even eligible to return until the 29th or 30th.  He's going to go to Las Vegas which happens to be close to Denver where the Mets will be after the first of the month.

chasesimms

He had been and could very well continue to be the best player on the team. At the very least, the Met need to find out if Lagares is legit. And for that he needs to play. All day. Every day.

hubie_wc
hubie_wc

@Steven Matregrano @chasesimms  Naive comment.  They are winning because of the pitching, not because of the OF play.  Lagares' defense will support the pitching even more.

And that slow 40 year old has about the same amount of quickness as Kirk

Yes, but this is the Mets we are talking about? Are you a new fan?

Stosh Ilford
Stosh Ilford

@mets2891 @Steven Matregrano@chasesimmsCY has the best WAR on the Mets by a wide margin, and 21st in MLB.  Maybe he's starting now because at the moment he is doing more to help the Mets win than anybody else on the team.   That's what the stats show, that's not an opinion.

mets2891
mets2891

@Steven Matregrano @mets2891 @chasesimms That was your point, to not rock the boat when the team has a winning streak.  And that's patently ridiculous when you're talking about a guy who can't even hit his own weight.  The fact that the Mets are cheap and will start him because he's making 7 mil is an entirely different issue.

chasesimms

The CY signing was awful. No idea what Alderson was thinking there. If he needs to be the highest paid 4th outfielder in baseball, then so be it. But I'm not confident the Mets will do that, given their track record of making poor decisions.

90wins
90wins

@hubie_wc @Steven Matregrano @chasesimms  That doesn't make sense. Mets won yesterday because of Granderson's single. Anyhow, Lagares' batting is improving and he is probably being missed because of his above 300 average.

Oo please they pinch hit for him last night in the 9th didn't they

charlie duck sauce
charlie duck sauce

Of course. Because the prerequisite for every OF is they need to be Willie Mays or something similar. At least in the minds of Mets fans.

charlie duck sauce

@hubie_wc @C.K. Dexter Haven  So in theory because Abreu is 40 he isn't a capable outfielder? I wonder why these complainants weren't being made after his last start in RF? Oh, okay. I think I figured out why.

C.K. Dexter Haven
C.K. Dexter Haven

@hubie_wc  TC is taking a calculated risk with Mejia and his 1.99 ERA that Abreu won't get too much work in RF.  OF defense is ok, the issue is if they have to throw someone out...not the strongest arms today.

hubie_wc
hubie_wc

@Steven Matregrano  They were not losing because of Lagares.  If it wasn't for him, they may have lost 8 of their first 10 games.  He has played much better than CY that's for sure.
