No DL for Granderson, expected back in lineup Friday

1:07 pm: Curtis Granderson is expected to return to the starting lineup Friday at home against the Braves, Terry Collins said early Wednesday.

April 15: Granderson will not be put on the disabled list, at least not today (NY Post, Apr. 15).

Granderson was checked out by team doctors, and although sore, he will not go on the DL. He will not play on Tuesday night, though will take light batting practice, he told reporters.

Granderson left Monday’s game with bruises to his left forearm, rib cage and knee after he crashed into the outfield wall in the first inning.

X-rays were negative, although multiple beat reporters said on Twitter  that Granderson appeared in lots of pain after the game, struggling to dress and walk.

“I hit the wall with my forearm, which then lodged my elbow into my chest area,” he said. “I hit the pole that had a little bit of padding on it. Luckily, there was a little bit or else it could have been worse. But the worst part I could have hit, I ended up hitting.”

Mets brain trust is getting to me....Grandy is playing so poorly its a damn shame that he is not going on the DL ......what are management thinking? Is he going to get  better later? How later? He is what he is and its not helping the team. Sit him down a few days or a few weeks. Don't believe Collins when he says he has to play to  get better.....not true. Its never true when in your career is getting stale.

I wonder if Grandy shows no improvement by Fri if he goes on the DL to make room for CY

It used to send you an email when someone responded to you, and you could click on your name and check. It doesn't do that stuff anymore, does it?

Good, as crappy as he's played, they need him.

They haven't hit with a darn and they have 6 wins. It's actually better than I expected. What everyone forgets is Granderson pretty much missed all of last year. Remember how long it took Reyes to get his timing back?

Matt Moore getting Tommy John now. Unreal. They baby these guys to death in the minors and this is what happens. Maybe try something new.

They sure don't make players like they used to. Now you have to pay them 50-100 million to show up and break

I'll give the guy credit for hustling on that play. But watching him at the plate has been more painful than running into a fence. Looks thoroughly lost and over-matched against lefties. And rarely hits the ball with any authority. Season only two weeks old so maybe he snaps-out of it. He does have a proven track record. But so did Jason Bay.

Day to day.............surgery Thursday.

From my experience as a Mets fan over the last few years, "day to day" generally means "done for the season."

Injuries happen.  That's why you need a deep talented team full of major leaguers.  Good teams deal with and survive injuries.  The Mets don't because they lack talent before the injuries.  Enough of the "Mets are cursed" crap.

Well at least it's not his wrist.  He'll definitely need a few days though.  Outfield of EY, Niewy, Brown...coming right up.

All these injuries because of drug testing...most pitchers were using to avoid injury.

@Kenneth Meltsner To make things worse, I just had memories of Bay going head first into the Left Field fence at Dodger Stadium.  That really helped his career.  I hope this isn't Bay all over again.

He needs to hit elsewhere in the lineup. Duda should be clean up based on current hitting. Curtis is not a 4 th hitter

@Chris O'Neill MLB turned a blind eye for years with steroids. Than MLB went on the witch hunt to crack down on steroids. No more fast recovery time since steroids are tested for=lots of injuries.

@hbk2004 What bruise was that? Do you mean the broken ankle?

@Chad Snaider  the great thing about that is technically CYoung is in a contract year.  I think he's going to continue swinging the stick..

@Brian Webster @Chris O'Neill   Most likely. If one believe from the late-60s through the early-90s when every prominent drug we're familiar with today, which were revelations during that 40-year span, that performance enhancing drugs were not used when there were no drug testing policy in place back then, they must be very naive.

@C.K. Dexter Haven  he went 5-5 with two homers the other night. i know it's the minor leagues but still encouraging. And he had a really good spring
