Curse of the Santa Suit

Daniel Murphy dressed as Santa Claus and handed out gifts to children during the team’s annual kid’s holiday party at Citi Field yesterday.

According to the New York Times, “In almost every instance, the player tasked with dressing up as St. Nick at the annual party (during the last decade) either sustained a major injury, left the team or saw a huge drop in production the very next season.”

I love Murph!  THE METS MUST KEEP HIM, PERIOD!!!

my commented was deleted , I suppose for spelling out a pitcher who wore number 43?  I was a big fan of number 43, and felt the reasoning behind him traded was baseless, at the time the wilpons were mad he answered questions regarding his contract status at last year Christmas benefit party. Now this year murphy not only dressed as santa , but answered questions regarding his contract status at the Christmas benefit party. I am a fan of murphy but trying to wrap my head around how the mets traded 43 on the reasoning of embarrassing the mets at the party, yet the mets are not embarrassed with murphy doing the same?

Please keep Wheels away from the Santa outfit. I don't understand why Jeff is not Santa every year. If Fred were to sit back and analyze things, he'd realize Jeff on the scene is the jinx. Too bad one can go blind when it comes to children ...

Double whammy for Murph who also stuck his neck out to do Wilpon's annual coat drive this year (with Zach Wheeler). Ike did that solo last year and now look at him.

How many balls (of the Christmas variety) did Murph drop at the party?

Murph needs about 30 mil guaranteed to be taking on an assignment like this. At least Kris Benson had the 30 mil and was also going home every night to what's-her-name (before she turned to guns & nutz) -- the goold old days!

The Santa Curse is just .1% of the overall Wilpon Curse.

Unbeleivable---the Yankees have made 2 more acquisitions, the Royals are becoming competitive, the Dbacks and chisox are dealing, and we're talking about the curse of santa...as cited by the NYTimes no less...

Well, in that case put Ike in the costume for the 12 days of Christmas.

This is ridiculous and unnecessary. Murph was Santa last year. It's like you're trying to wish bad on someone. Why was this even relevant enough to be posted on here?

"According to the same report, it seems that actually it has nothing to do with a Santa suit, but rather wearing a Mets uniform."

Put the Wilpons and Saul Katz in the Santa uniform

This describes 90% of our roster so the odds are typically pretty good.

Didn't Anna Benson wear a Santa suit at a Christmas party and then Benson got traded. Does that count?

David wright wore the santa suit 2 times and the mets still resigned him and he remained productive so that kinda nulifies the curse

From the article:

"Wright seemingly avoided the curse. In 2007, he put together one of his best seasons, hitting .325 with 30 home runs and 107 RBIs. But as it turns out, he didn't avoid the curse at all—he merely delayed it."

Well, that's certainly convenient logic. Well done, WSJ.

Then they should have let Ike wear it and then trade him.

Can't believe we're wasting time on this including me commenting but...how many guys have good years back to back on a team as devoid of talent as this..

There wasn't any need for this post. The only curses the Mets should worry about are Fred Wilpon and his idiot son Fredo, er Jeff.

Murphy has been a warrior for the Mets during a tough time in franchise history. He's been paid a lot less than he's been worth. He doesn't complain about the franchise or say stupid things in the media. He hustles and has played wherever the team has needed him. The Mets would have been a lot better team over the past five years if they'd had 8 Daniel Murphys playing the field.

Keep Daniel Murphy.

Did Bernie Madoff ever wear the Santa suit?  Fred or Saul?  The answers will tell you where all of the "curses" around here can be found.

Yeah, it's the stupid Santa suit. Not the worst owners in baseball, the Cou pons, that we've been undone by.

@Bringback86 Actually cited by The Wall Street Journal (a mistaken citation by MetsBlog).

@JoeBenignoFanWhy? It's a slow news day. I found it entertaining. Would you rather Choo updates all day? Or maybe some more Ike rumors? Relax.

@Jim Morrison @Young Ideas

One of the reasons, Jim, is this is not an independent blog; it's the Mets' blog.  This makes it an appropriate and worthwhile target for those of us that love our team and can't stand to sit by idly watching it rot.
