Eric Campbell starting in LF

3:23 p.m.: Eric Campbell will start in left field on Thursday night.

Campbell may soon see time in the outfield, Terry Collins told reporters after Wednesday’s game, during which Campbell hit his first big-league home run >> Watch Here.

“With the way he’s swinging, you got to find some place to put him in the lineup,” Collins said.

Campbell, 27, is bating .438 with a .444 OBP in 18 plate appearances since being promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas.

He played all four infield positions, as well as left and right field, this season in Triple-A, though he’s regarded mostly as a corner infielder.

“I’d be ready if they need me,” Campbell said Wednesday (Newsday, May 22).

lmao! In the outfield??? lol...seriously i try to be supportive of TC but what is it with this love affair with Duda?? Campbell gets inserted into this lineup and hits nothing but laser beams! everytime he's up! and we have about 30 outfielders! Enough of this crap already! Duda and Tejada should be coming off the bench until we see what these guys..Wilmer and Campbell can do, I mean really.. what does TC expect to see from theses guys that he hasnt already seen??

Campbell is going to have more RBI this week that d'Arnaud has in his career.

Today's lineup:

Lagares

Murph

Wright

Grandy

Campbell

Duda

Flores

Recker

That's the best possible lineup EY CY and Tejeda sucks and are bench players. Stick with a lineup and play it everyday. When TDA comes back u play him everyday

I have no problem seeing Campbell starting out there. He's hitting.

What's hilarious is it seems that our best players on offense this year, and right now, are all guys who are making little to no money. If that's the case, why not sell that "rebuilding" theme to the fans, and NOT lock yourself in, even for a year, with a Chris Young or even a Curtis Granderson contract? If our best chance to win lies with David Wright, and a bunch of guys making 4 mil or less (duda, murph, flores, lagares, campbell, darnaud) what the hell was the sense of pi$$in away 21 mil on CY and CG? It's not like those guys are gonnna sit anyway, BECAUSE of said $21 mil....

Imagine how much nicer that 21 million would look being spent on Jose Abreu...oh wait, that would've only cost us an avg of 13 mil a year (INCLUDING his signing bonus)..

Any body notice that Josh Thole is hitting .362 for Toronto? Two years out and still nothing much to show for losing Beltran, Reyes, and Dickey.

Mariners AAA SS Chris taylor has never hit below .293 in the minors... not a power hitter but has some speed ..wonder what they would want for him? But with SS  Brad Miller hitting .156 probably not unless thay have Nick franklin at SS..which is a possiblilty since he not playing 2b over Cano.

And I thought that the time between 1977 and 1984 was tough to be a Mets fan.  Sandy Alderson has now reached a Joe McDonald level.

When will this reign of terror end?  DAY 1301: METS FANS HELD HOSTAGE!

We need to be freed by mediocre baseball #FREETHEMETSFANS!

"In fact, this type of in-flux baseball is the one goal Sandy Alderson said he was quite clear about avoiding this past winter. In November, he told reporters he did not want to get in to May still trying to establish his roster. He hoped to play most of the season with a clear picture of his team. Unfortunately, that is almost the exact opposite of what he is working with today, one week from June."  - Matt's comments

Its as though Alderson and Collins have zero communication.  But that can't be possible.  So what is the reason for this mess that never goes away?

Alderson is very bad at this job.  That's the only explanation.  At this point, I don't see how anyone could reasonably defend the job Alderson has done with the Mets.

Sad thing is its not even June and I am already completely indifferent.  Nothing worse than that.

Play him at 1B as the righty in the platoon. Or send Duda away and forget about the platoon, for now. If he can play the OF, forget about EYJ and CY, for now. Just don't sit Lagares, for any reason. Play him where you'd wish he'd fit in and leave him there. when he cools off, send him back to Vegas.

Better yet, why not just swap Vegas for Queens and bring up all the 51s. Wouldn't get any uglier, that's for sure.

For the sake of his sanity, I think Collins needs to leave. I can't believe he hasn't been carted off to Bellevue. If not for a breakdown than for a broken neck the way he looks left, says one thing, then snaps right and says the opposite.

This is starting to snowball into a real mess.  The first thing that really needs to be done is they need to tell TC to STOP making announcements about playing time.   Just shut him up.   I'm not big on blaming Collins for this team's failures.  I don't think any manager could win with this roster, but it might be time for a shakeup.  Just to change the atmosphere.

@upstater Dude..Hate to break it to you but Thole still sucks, he may be batting 300. but i bet the guy doesnt have 60 at bats? if he really is hitting 300? and we got Wheeler for Beltran who Met fans hated anyway.

jenkins

@upstater  ridiculous. If you don't see the talent in Thor-you don't.

flmetsfan

@upstater 47 at bats in 19 games.  Hardly the stats to establish a lynch mob over.

However, I have the distinct impression that Wheeler and Syndergaard have been grossly overrated.  Judging by his first two starts, Mr. Control - Montero, seems like he might have been overrated too.

72tilltc
72tilltc

@upstater  Of course it takes a while once you get away from Hudgens who has everyone hunting strikes with Thole forced to swing for power. In 10 Years "Hunting strikes" will be as funny as Arte Howe "LIghting up the room"

@Marc Singleton no one is defending the performance of our " resident genius" alderson....chris young is a total waste of 8 million...but if granderson can get to .240 with 20 homers it might lessen the stupidity of that contract.

jenkins
jenkins

@Marc Singleton  I don't think it's that easy. I also don't think much of this surprises Alderson. He knew he wouldn't have money to spend and he knew he had to wait for the young pitching to get here.

I'm sure he knew he had to trade for a SS in June and maybe for an OF. I'm sure he expected something-anything- out of darno . He missed on Morse and hoped on Young. Lagares has been better than he expected. He hoped on Duda-he expected some power from Wright. He knew Murphy could hit.

He didn't expect to lose his closer-nobody does.

lindro88
lindro88

@Marc Singleton I'd bet even Alderson deep down knows he's done a terrible job.  He hasn't had money, but plenty of GM's have managed to put together better teams with similar payrolls.

72tilltc

@lindro88  So you think TC is stupid in only part of his brain. The fact is he is bad and loses games. It is easy to say they wouldn't win anyway but if you see the stupid things he does and allows you van understand the losses. How many base running and fielding blunders does Murphy need to make be fore he is instructed. Why does Terry think CY can be a big part of this lineup?

jenkins
jenkins

@lindro88  yep. Time for Wally-it's all his kids that will be playing anyway. His teams play hard and much smarter than this team.

72tilltc
72tilltc

@jenkins I can say the same thing about Flores yet all we hear is he cant play. In the spring he crushed the ball and AAA too.

rico

@flmetsfan  yeah you'll drum them out of town and when they win Cy Youngs you'll brow-beat the mets for giving them up.

How's Reyes doing away from Hudgens? He sure isn't a batting champ contender now.

jenkins
jenkins

@72tilltc @lindro88  All the Mets had to  do was look in their own division for a  power OF. Morse signed for $6-M. The guy's always been a good RBI man. That's why the Giants are good and the Mets aren't.

lindro88
lindro88

@72tilltc @lindro88   I didn't realize that The major league manager was supposed to teach his players how to run the bases.   Murphy is what he is.  They need his bat, so they put up with the rest.  As for CY,  7m reasons why Terry will say he's a big part of the lineup.  Who knows what he really thinks.

Ed Yano

If this is all Wally's kids, how could they be smarter then this team, they are his team( according to you).

jenkins

@72tilltc @jenkins  He can play-he's not a SS-but he can play. Started real slow in Vegas-then was brought up when he caught fire there.

@Ed Yano you got me he is the hitting coach to the batting champs.

@72tilltc @jenkins  Thor and Wheeler are way down the list? Who was above them at the start of the year-besides Harvey?

72tilltc
72tilltc

@jenkins @72tilltc  I think they have all the pitchers throw outside so does Kieth and Ron. They set up and pitch away and then cant come in.  Niese throws the cutter in and scouts his own game (he said so) Gee saw listening to those idiots would get him a AAA ticket and also picthes to his own tune.

72tilltc
72tilltc

@jenkins @72tilltc  I agree not to quit but dont let Sandy propaganda fool you they are way down on the list. In addition Warthen and Terry messed up Wheeler big time. To throw 97 and be afraid to come inside is crazy.

72tilltc
72tilltc

@jenkins  True and that is why Sabean trades 5th starters for Beltran rentals not the hopes and dreams of Sandy. Harvey Mejia Famila Degrom Niese Gee Montero all pre Sandy picks are much better than Wheeler Thor Colon Lyons Carrasco etc crap sandy signed.

72tilltc
72tilltc

The issue isnt teaching him it is stressing fundies which Terry doesn't do and mistakes are addressed if the Mets win the game or the bone head play works. Like stealing third with 2 out. The Mets won  a game and Terry said but we won. I said at the time but we will lose in the long run with that. I have seen Murphy slow down and watch as he is scoring usually it isnt a big deal but he has in the past not crossed home before an out was made. Yesterday on DW sinking liner he was watching and didnt score. Even if he Familia threw the ball right away Murphs momentum into left field would have created a a safe play at first. He has never been reprimanded for throwing between his legs (they Laugh) or the now one hande catches the dide feed toss the or the barehand catch from the ss on DP's

jenkins

@Ed Yano  they're not the ones making the mistakes-the vets are.
