The Mets recently inked Daisuke Matsuzaka, Kyle Farnsworth and Jose Valverde to minor-league deals with invited to major league camp.
For Matsuzaka, who can earn $1.5 million on the MLB roster, he can opt out of his contract with the Mets if he is not on the big league team by May 30 (Sherman).
Farnsworth can also earn a base salary of $1.5 million, with $75,000 bonuses for 40, 45, 50 and 55 appearances. That will be bumped to $100,000 for 60 and 65 appearances, respectively. He can also earn $100,000 for 30 and 35 games finished, $250,000 for 40 and 45 games finished and $300,000 for 50 games finished (Sherman). Valverde has a base salary of $1 million, and all the bonuses Farnsworth has in his contract.
“New York is awesome. I can go shopping every morning,” Valverde said. He also mentioned that he almost signed with the Mets before the 2013 season, but was advised to stay in Detroit (DiComo).
“I’ve always wanted to play here,” he said (Puma).
