Collins sits CY, Lagares and Tejada against Nate Eovaldi

Right-handed hitters are batting just .127 against Monday’s starting pitcher for the Marlins, Nate Eovaldi, who has a 2.58 ERA in six starts.

As a result, Omar Quintanilla, Bobby Abreu and Eric Young Jr. will start in place of Chris Young, Juan Lagares and Ruben Tejada.

“This guy is eating up right-handed hitting,” Terry Collins said about Eovaldi before Monday’s game (ESPN, May 5).

Collins also said he wanted to use the opportunity to get Lagares a bit of rest. Lagares has started all four games since returning from a pulled right hamstring. He planned to rest Lagares on Sunday, but Eric Young Jr. couldn’t play because he got hit in the face with a ball during batting practice.

Not having Tejada on the field in the eight inning, killed them!

How many stupid lineups will Terry put out to get his butt buddy Eric Young in games? This is ANOTHER Collins loss. Between his line up and REFUSAL to pull Dice K when Stevie Wonder could see he didn't have it tonight. This team will never be anything with old country managing it, a clown as the GM and Wilponzis as owners

They want to give Lagares a game off, they want Abreu to get a start a week.  Makes sense to accomplish both against a guy who's tough on righties.

Lagaras sitting is fine, he needs a night off after coming back from the hamstring injury and playing some long games in Colorado. Tejada sitting is fine, the guy can't hit against anyone so of course he won't hit against this guy. Young sitting is garbage, the guy is on a tear, he should be in the lineup.

My son asked me if Tejada is a good player.   I paused and thought about the question.  What positive thing can I say about Tejada, I asked myself.  Is he a great defensive player?  No.  Does he hit for average?  No. Power?  No.  How about speed? He must at least run like the wind.  No.

Yet here we are.  Tejada is our starting short stop.  Way to go Alderson!

Typical Collins to over manage. This guy is the worst.

Lagares is the most talented player on the Mets.   Sorry Wright lovers.  Sitting him because he's played 4 games in a row is crazy, regardless of who's pitching.

Collins is a disaster.  And since he's Alderson's boy, I can't help but blame Alderson.

Lots of moving pieces.

Since he wasn't able to rest Lagares yesterday, ok.  Q for T, fine.  Not sure about Abreu, but the lefty may make sense, and I I like to see a manager find chances for his bench players.

Of course, winning is nice, too...

You have to play either Lagaras or CY in CF. Everybody BUT the little dweeb running the club knows this.

Let's see how that plays out tonight. That defense is not that great in the outfield soooooo.

CY is eating up RHP. .289BA .489SLG. Way to have confidence in your players TC. not to mention the fact that Marlins Park makes the Grand Canyon look like a crack in the sidewalk. So by all means, let's sit one of our better defensive OFers who has been displaying the most power in the lineup in favor of a geriatric LHB. Bravo!

You put your best lineup out there.. Period.  If you have a hot bat, you play the hot bat regardless of lefty/righty.  This is what I hate about Terry, and I feel repetitive and saying it... He doesn't reward players for their sucess (and really doesn't penalize players for their failures.) He plays matchups irregardless of streaks or hotness.  He doesn't really reward excellent play either.  (Oh, you hit 3 home runs last game? Now you get to sit on the bench for the guy that's 0-15 in this situation. But at least he can hit lefties historically better!)  And he plays favorites.  (players that should long have been benched in favor of other players often continue to get the benefit of the doubt time and time again.  I mean I'm not getting paid the big money to notice and I can clearly see the flaws in Terry's management style...  Come on now.How Lagares is not in this game is just ridiculous.

Leave it to TC to bench the player that is playing the BEST on the team (Lagares: 13 game hitting streak)... Frankly I'm not surprised.  I am surprised that he is keeping David in the lineup though...

I like it.  You've now got CY and JL off the bench late in the game.  Tejada can stay on the bench, permanently.

Let's sit the hot hands. Right...

I know wright is wright. But lagares has been the best hitter on the mets right or lefty when he has played. Miami is a big ballpark. I would want my best outfield defense out there.

@Marc Singleton  It is a location where we need to improve no doubt, but outside of Drew I don't know any fits. Drew isn't worth 10-12MM over Tejada.

@thjopr6986  And he's Alderson's boy.   Speaks very poorly for Alderson's ability to build a winning team.

Except for Tejada, of course. You can sit him.

I doubt he will be. After all it is TC. He's usually never right.

Tovar is better defensively and most likely better offensively. He's batting .320 in Binghamton which isn't too shabby. I'm hesitant on giving Flores a shot at ss, but I'd give him the first opportunity to win the position. Tejada absolutely is NOT the answer.
