Collins expects Mejia to start for the Mets in September

Terry Collins told reporters he expects Jenrry Mejia to make a couple of starts for the Mets once he is called up in September.

Collins said he wants Mejia to pitch in situations where he is comfortable – right now he is most comfortable as a starting pitcher.

Mejia underwent Tommy John Surgery on his elbow last May, and made his return this past May. He has gone 4-2 with a 2.90 ERA between Single-A St. Lucie, Double-A Binghamton, and Triple-A Buffalo, having allowed 25 walks while striking out 47 in 80 2/3 innings over 28 games and 12 starts this season.

Mejia has gone 2-1 with a 1.12 ERA in eight starts with Triple-A Buffalo this year, but is 1-1 with a 5.48 ERA in 16 relief appearances with the Bisons.
