Chris Young

Flores, Lagares, Satin, Chris Young in starting lineup

4:20 p.m.: Eric Young Jr. is hitless in eight at bats against Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez, which is why Juan Lagares is batting leadoff Wednesday night, Terry Collins explained before the game.

3:15 p.m.: The Mets lineup against the Nationals on Wednesday features Lagares in center field batting leadoff; Wilmer Flores at second base and Josh Satin at first base (Mets, Twitter).

2:26 p.m.: Chris Young will be in tonight’s starting lineup (Horwitz, Apr. 2)

Young missed Monday’s game against the Nationals due to a strained right quad muscle.

In December, Young told MLB Network Radio that Sandy Alderson promised him a certain number of at bats, but did not guarantee whether he’d play center or corner outfield.

“Certainly we’ve got to figure out how to get those guys in the lineup on a somewhat regular basis,” Terry Collins said this past Sunday, referring to Chris Young, Eric Young Jr. and Juan Lagares. “We’ve made some commitments and we’re going to stick by them and we’ll just see how they play out.”

No reason for Chris Young to stay in this game. Get Andrew Brown out there.

I have a very simple way to get C. Young, E. Young, and Legares in the lineup. The simple way is to recognize that E. Young is not an everyday player & the everyday OF should be C. Young (LF), Legares (CF), and Granderson (RF). I was against starting Legares everyday, but his defense is so damn great that you can't leave him on the bench. Anytime the ball is hit in the vicinity of CF, I get excited to see what amazing play he is going to make. His offense isn't great but with more ABs he will catch up to major league pitching & he will hit around .250-.260, which justifies him playing everyday. As for E. Young, he just isn't an everyday player. He brings the speed element to the game when he plays, but as the old adage says, "you can't steal first base." Young is better suited to be a late game defensive replacement (even though the OF defense is pretty damn good) or a late game pinch runner. If Terry Collins plays him everyday, he is going to expose him & he will become irrelevant & useless at that point. E. Young is the perfect bench player for a NL team solely because of the double switch & his ability to play multiple positions & bring multiple tools to the table. Nevertheless, TC MUST settle on one OF so he can bring some stability to the lineup. There is already a 3 man platoon at 1B & rotating 4 OF every game will lead to a lineup that is continuously in flux. I am a firm believer in lineup stability & I believe it is key to solid offensive production. The bottom line is that the Mets need to settle on a LH 1B to compliment Satin & settle on a 3 man OF. A lineup that is changing everyday is just as good as having no lineup at all.

I'm wearing my Mr. Met cap.  There's no way they can lose.

Why is this the last Mets site to officially post the lineup?

At least we put up 7 runs on a better pitching staff then the Yankees did against the Stros

Hey, I'm just glad to see Flores in the lineup and a chance to see Young and Lagares in the same OF, the way it should be. CY had a great spring and is a huge X-factor for this team. Hopefully Lagares can continue is hot start and Flores looks like he did in the Spring and not like last summer.

Also, Big Daddy Colon's first start. I'm excited to watch tonight.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Murphy on the birth of their child.  Having children is a wonderful thing.  Word to the wise.  The best time for Met player copulation is mid to late January, just before spring training.  This way the due date will be mid to late October when you know dad will have ample time to kill.

If the Mets had a brain (Big if) They would send down q tomorrow and hold on to flores until sunday and if he does better than tejada send down ruben

You know it's only a matter of time, or two-three bad games, before they remove Juan Lagares from CF.

With Sandy's love affair with Duda, Davis, Satin, and Tejada I still think our best option is to move Murphy to 1st, Flores at 2nd, Tejada at short, and have Brown, Satin, and EYJ as reserve players.

@dreamer3kx  He tweaked his quad in the top of the 1rst playing defense, chasing down a foul ball.. Looks like they're being conservative, at least hopefully. But certainly not a great sign.

@ponzies86  He does. Could thrive in the National League. Just stay healthy, specifically just have that 40 year old body hold up. But yeah, looks strong. Reminds me of Pedro in 2005, pitching like a true artist.

@ifti99  The over/under on attendance tonight was 10K.  I took the under.  Lots of people dressed as empty seats.

@Kevin Joseph Patrick  He hit will during his winter league season and continued to have a strong Spring, so Im hopefuly he can continue to improve. If he hits then there's is zero reason for him to come out of the lineup because we all know how valuable his defense is. Even as an average hitter last year, he had a 3.5 WAR which is very good for a starting CFer.

Starz31
Starz31

@Victor Triguero  Agreed but I understand why he doesn't. He's got a pretty great gig as it is now and he doesn't have to cover every game of the season, gets to pick his road trips so I understand why he wouldn't want to give that up and add significant amount of responsibility and stress.

@rico  That's what they used to say in Brooklyn.  That didn't turn out well.

Agreed. It's pretty ridiculous that Murph is getting flack from some in the media for using his paternity leave. What a joke.

@Macacawitz  That's what I said..but ya know then it cuts into his fishing, hunting and golf seasons.

How dare he and his wife have sex last summer?  Damn

@Kenneth Meltsner  Why?

I have faith that if he continues to play well they won't do that. They're aren't completely incompetent.

@Victor Triguero One bat away? Are you kidding, seriously? They need on base percentage guys, something they don't have. Instead, our whiz GM got a strikeout machine who hits homers at Yankee Stadium, brilliant. We truly have a clueless bunch running our organization.

@William Bonilla @Victor Triguero  He's got a chip on his shoulder and wants that starting CFer spot. I'd love to watch him do well, he's a lot of fun to watch and seems like a good kid.

@mikesml  haha, that's pretty funny. I forgot about that.

Only we can somehow play him at coors field when the mets are in citifield. Outside of Coors he's mediocre.

Starz31

He's right, though. This lineup has some talent in it. You get an upgrade at SS and/or 1B and the lineup is instantly improved.

Granderson is fine...if he's not the cleanup hitter. That's where you need a big bat.

Joe De Sr.

Sorry Mike, don't agree. They talk to much about information that is not relevant to the game being played. I listen on radio and mute the TV....I only switched back when Kiner was in the booth...

BringBackDaveTelghe

@mikesml Yeah they're great.  Ronnie is a bit too complementary to everyone and Keith and Gary act like dinosaurs in terms of any stat or innovation but other then that they are very good to listen to.

@mikesml  lol scolds us. I enjoyed his post yesterday simply because it was accurate.

Starz31
Starz31

@Victor Triguero @Starz31 @Kenneth Meltsner  Agreed. He should be given every chance as a starter. He's simply too dynamic has a defensive player for him to not get the benefit of the doubt. That said, if he plays 4 or 5 games a week, sitting one a week, that's not the end of the world.

@Joe De Sr.  Mets radio announcers suck. The TV team is way better -- they are indeed the best in the business.

Andrew Sodergren
Andrew Sodergren

@mikesml Exactly, they aren't total homers like most crews. And you're right, they can keep things interesting when the game isn't. And unfortnately for us, that happens more often than not in Metsland.

Andrew Sodergren
Andrew Sodergren

@BringBackDaveTelghe @mikesmlWell Keith is an old-school baseball player. Most old-school players don't embrace the sabermetric world. So that's no big surprise. But I'd take them over any other broadcast team. I live in Florida, and I'm stuck with Marlins broadcasters, who are absolutely brutal. Rays broadcast is ok but not great. And from watching MLB network, I get feeds of just about every broadcast team, and I haven't seen one come close to the Mets' team.
