Chris Young has two HR in four days

Mets OF Chris Young hit a two-run home run in a three-run fifth inning Sunday.

It was Young’s second home run in four days.

“When you get a couple of weeks off and you come back in, it takes just a little bit to get your timing, quiet things down, try not to do too much, shorten your swing up a little bit and just really trust what you’ve been doing for the entire time,” Young said after the game (ESPN, Apr. 28). “I feel like it’s starting to come together.”

He missed the first two weeks of the season on the disabled list.

Tell Ruben Tejada to pick up a bat & put down that wet newspaper he's been swinging. smh

Even though EYjr has moments where he does not look like a baseball player I am still torn about benching him. The offense has proven to be so bad and the pitching has been so good that the times when he is able to fraud his way on base he has been able to make something happen. And these fraudulent EYjr runs have won us games. Not saying he should start over Lagares because hes the obvious better player I just think we will miss EYjr more then we think. But! obviously I hope i'm wrong and he sits on the bench and i forget about him

When Lagares is back this outfield should be Chris Young in left, Lagares in Center, and Granderson in RF.

In the mets OF, i just think Lagares needs to play everyday.

What's going on with Mr. Murphy? This needs to be a break out year for him. He offers no power, and is largely a singles hitter. He also strikes out a lot. He has a nice swing and looks like a hitter but it's time his production expands. If he's not going to be flirting with or over .300 he needs to hit 15-20 hrs and knock in 80+ runs. He seems to have potential but it's time he takes the next step.

Shortstop should be addressed soon with Noah and Rafael and degrom being close degrom gets traded I'm sure maybe starlin Castro is available

@David Chang Runs are runs don't matter how they come about. Secondly Lagares and EYjr need to platoon the first week or so once Lagares comes back. C.Young should not come out of the lineup he and Duda are the only two hitting for power. I'll get killed for this but I would look to trade Lagares for your prototypical leadoff hitter.

@grillruben  actually Young in right he has the better arm. But the mets had no clue that Lagares was good so they boxed themselves in the wrong way. Yes they had no CLUE that is why they signed  Ankiel and Chris Young to play center.

@Steven Matregrano

When you consider the stadium we play in, Juan Lagares glove alone justifies him being the everyday Centerfielder. I know he has been injured, but I don't know how this is still debatable at this point.

What exactly has ey done he gets on base 30 % of the time a leadoff man should be on atleast 40%

bleedblue4

@Zac Tindall Lagares is not a leadoff hitter and never will be doesn't show the eye or the discipline to leadoff.

@Bob G  Murph has had only 2 years of over 10 HR.  He is not going to be a power bat.  He does hit between .280-.290.  He does need to start picking up some more doubles, which he has not done as well this year.   I also do not think he is striking out that often. Murph is being Murph.  With the exception of being a bit down on doubles at this time, he is doing everything he normally does.

grillruben

@Bob G What's going on? He's been solid.  Murph is a # 2 hitter, he is not the problem.

@Zac Tindall This is biggest glaring hole in the roster. Stephen drew solves lots of issues and transforms the lineup.

They signed young for the bat he knew he wasn't gunna spend all his time at CF

I will take anyone at the position not named Ruben Tejada. We need to fix SS and 1b ASAP!

@mikesml Wow the guy has two good weeks and he should be the future lol.Could've had a 1B in Abreu but apparently he wasn't worth it (Morons). As for short degrom doesn't go in a trade considering he is out performing Thor and Montero in AAA as well as out performed both in spring training. And Yet if the Mets would've kept Gomez you never would've heard of Lagares.

Zac Tindall

Heck u could package just gee and degrom and get a legitimate bat

How is it below avg Castro can hit and he would do wonders for our lineup and provide a spark

Bob G
Bob G

@helloboy @Bob G  Then at best he's average compared to other guys in the league. He's a big enough guy that he needs to provide more extra base hits if he's going to be below. 300. The Mets are so weak at so many offensive positions that they need a guy like Murphy who is a talented hitter to take it to the next step. Citi Field is a big park, as a line drive  hitter he should be up with the league leaders in doubles.

Bob G
Bob G

@Steven Matregrano @Bob G  All his life? When was he ever a power hitter? I'm not counting little league stats. He also does not have a great eye…as a matter of fact he's made a comment that he'd like to walk more this year because he's not a patient hitter. Maybe I'm wrong but I think your facts are off.

@Thomas McKeever @Zac Tindall Drew not a solution at anything more than 8M per season.

His production is just not that much better than in-house solutions...at least not 8M better.

Zac Tindall
Zac Tindall

Stephen Drew solves nothing if we want to win we have to have a hitter and a shortstop Castro is on a losing squad with what most teams feel is the best ss prospect in the game in Baez cubs need pitching and we have it neise and degrom with a couple of hitting prospects not named nimmo or plawecki can get this done

Zac Tindall
Zac Tindall

We aren't talking about duda we are talking about Cy

72tilltc
72tilltc

@Zac Tindall  Yes they had Duda for his bat in RF and LF and you cant put a bat in the outfield that costs you 15 games a year.

Zac Tindall
Zac Tindall

Duda is fine SS has to be fixed immediately and sandy needs to do it while degrom and neise are doing well send tovar with them 2 and there is our SS

@helloboy

There are 16 first basemen with 4 plus hr's. Not included on that list are Paul Goldschmidt (3 hr's), Miguel Cabrera (2), and Prince Fielder(2). That's not even considering 3B, or DH that can also play first base.

Just because Duda has 4 hr doesn't mean we shouldn't have a better first baseman. We need offensive production somewhere, and there are a bunch of guys you can put at first that will hit better than Duda, and can't be that much worse in the field.  Duda does a good job fielding balls hit right at him and scooping low throws, but his range is very limited.

helloboy
helloboy

@grillruben @Zac Tindall  on a per AB basis, Duda has been our most productive player this year, and this includes Wright.  He leads the team in HR 4 and os only 4 RBI behind Wright for the team lead and this is with some 30 fewer AB's.  His OPS is the highest on the team, as well.

While I am not a big Duda guy, at this point he has been the least of our issues to fix.  We do need an immediate fix at SS, however.

@Steven Matregrano @Zac Tindall  EYJ would be best used as tactical speed. Pinch running in close games would be his best asset. He can grab a start or two a week subbing for an OF and at 2B, but his best asset is still coming in when you need him.  Lagares is a better defender by far and probably a better pure hitter.

EY is the worst hitter they have outside of Tejada and Q. He just happens to be the fastest guy also.  Hence, he should be used as a pinch runner.

Young's OPS is .593...His OBP is only .004 better than Tejada now (it has been going down).  Young is NOT a guy you can have as a regular starter.

this guy really cracks me up with the ey largares comparisons

Theo Epstein loves his prospects and he needs Baez at SS this year for sure

I just look at it as we need a shortstop period and Castro fits the bill

Zac Tindall

Misunderstood you apparently when I made a lineup with Castro and you commented negatively my bad

Zac Tindall
Zac Tindall

So first you say Castro doesn't help now EYJ is better than Lagares

helloboy
helloboy

@Steven Matregrano  he would be tied for our team lead in HR right now, as he has 4.  Just saying.   I would swich Murphy and Young as Murph is doing ok 4th.  I don't think the Mets would bat Granderson 7th at this point though.  They would more likely lead Castro off, bat Granderson 2nd and hit Lagares 7th at this time, though that may change if Grandy does not get going by mid May... hypothetically.

Zac Tindall
Zac Tindall

Theo Epstein would jump at a chance for neise and degrom

@Thomas McKeever @Zac Tindall  Drew is more viable for the reasons of not giving up prospects.  The issues though with Drew:

1) Will they fall off before they can sign him in June?

2) How many years will Drew get?  Will the Mets need to go shopping again in the offseason or the year after?  Castro gives them 6 years

3) Can Drew stay healthy, if signed.  Also, how long will it take him to get going?  It May be the all-star break before the rust comes off.  (Castro is crazy durable and seems to play every game every year).

Thomas McKeever
Thomas McKeever

@Zac Tindall I'd take either. I just think Drew is more viable because you only have to give up money and not a ton of pitching for the Cubs best player.
