"PitchFX says Tanaka averaged 92.5 mph and 91.1 mph with his four-seamer and sinker yesterday, respectively, down negligibly from 92.7 mph and 91.4 mph last year. He did top out at 94.5 mph yesterday, so it’s not like he was out there with Jered Weaver velocity. Most pitchers add a tick or to as the season progresses and the weather heats up, and if Tanaka hadn’t done so much talking about his velocity this spring, we wouldn’t have even noticed it yesterday."

Phew

@fatrex

and where was his location when he got hammered?

fatrex
fatrex

@a57se @fatrex Terrible, but of most concern is that he only threw 5 four seam fastballs, indicating that he doesn't trust airing out his elbow. Everything is built off the fastball and he threw 70% non fastballs yesterday, no bueno.

J. Smooth
J. Smooth

@fatrex The fact that he doesn't trust his elbow to crank up the velocity is concerning. If this is how he's going to pitch for the rest of his career he should just get the surgery for the benefit of everyone.

a57se
a57se

@fatrex @a57se

His location is the most important thing to him.

pitchers mix up the patterns they use because hitters study those patterns and will adjust accordingly.

Oftentimes the first time through the line-up you'll pitch one way then switch your approach the second time through.

Gotta keep the hitters guessing unless you just have dominating sutff which Tanaka does not possess.

fatrex
fatrex

@J. Smooth @fatrex It is, but the velocity is there, I'd rather him see a sports psychologist than a surgeon if that's truly the problem.

fatrex
fatrex

@a57se @fatrex dominating fastball* his splitter could be the best pitch in the mlb.

a57se
a57se

@fatrex @J. Smooth

It isn't the problem...

he lost his command...that happens to every pitcher.

fatrex
fatrex

@a57se @fatrex @J. Smooth No, 57, he threw 70% off speed pitches yesterday, he obviously has a hangup about his fastball. For context, the last pitcher to consistently throw that many non-fastballs in the MLB was Mike Mussina when he was pumping 84 mph.

a57se
a57se

@fatrex @a57se

And if all he threw were splitters, he wouldn't get anyone out..

He still needs to set it up.

And that requires good command.

fatrex
fatrex

@a57se @fatrex You're correct, and what pitch is the most easily located, that wasn't thrown nearly at all yesterday? Doesn't that indicate something?

a57se
a57se

@fatrex @a57se @J. Smooth

Oh stop...that was just the way they decided to attack the Blue Jays and it worked when he wasn't off on his location.

a57se
a57se

@fatrex @a57se

That his gameplan was less fastballs...

you don't pitch the same way every game unless you have dominant stuff and don't have to mix things up...

Pitching is an art...

fatrex
fatrex

@a57se @fatrex Before he got hurt he had a 1.99 ERA throwing fastballs, after he got hurt he stopped throwing them and his performance has suffered dramatically. There has to be a reason. The elbow is the most logical option. His fastball velocity indicates that he's physically healthy, but his pitching plan suggests he's babying the arm.

a57se
a57se

@fatrex @a57se

you just have to have some psychological reason for this....

a57se
a57se

@fatrex @a57se

I hate to tell you this but splitters put a lot more stress on the elbow then two seam fastballs do.

So do curveballs.

A Letter to Mr. Bent and his TWO UGLY Brothers (you know who you are) !!

Dear Mr Bent, just a short reminder that you don't have to waste your time TRYING to research thousandths of comment trying to find where I might've said that "I approve of Rexy's Hiring" because you will never find it !!

AGAIN what I did say at the time of the INTERVIEW (that's BEFORE Rexy was hired) that Rex Ryan "Will IMPROVE the Defense but that he is NOT a head coach. That I hated his father, his family DNA !!!

I later went on to raise him to the level of a  "Used Car Salesman"  then to his present level of Charlatan !!

And to confirm my position on Sexy Rexy I issued TWO Lists of a Dozen Reasons to fre Rexy over the two previous years of his Firing !!

All clear now?? And if you have any further questions, please let me know!!

Sincerely,

Hanknaples

Brendan

@Hanknaples Hank, if you have any shred of dignity and manhood, you'll apologize to Bent. If you don't, you're a coward and a fraud and should be ashamed. It's that simple. Have a good day.

"....because I had remembered you saying some positive things"

What "positive things" did I say ?? There you go trying to be a hypocrite ,AGAIN and obfuscate the facts!!

Me saying that this guy may bring something to the table but ultimately DESTROY the whole setting and you extrapolate that to mean "Positive things" then your HYPOCRISY is worse than I originally believed !!!

@Hanknaples So I'm trying to get on this green smoothie kick because my cholesterol jumped within the last year on my blood panel, but they're just so gross I can't get them down, any tips? I'm too young for heart disease.

This is making my head hurt.

The comment you posted (which I reposted) was in response to someone else criticizing you for NOT having any positive things to say about Rex.  So you put forward the fact that he's a good defensive coach who would have success.

In the same comment you admit that you he turned out to be a fraud, thereby suggesting that until the point at which you realized he was a fraud, you still had some expectation that he might not be one.

I don't dispute any of the stuff about you making lists saying why Rex should be fired, but that all came after you (by your own admission) came to the realization that Rex didn't have what it took.

Okay, so you're higher on Bowles than you are on Rex.  That's good.  Hopefully if he falters, it won't be because you (by your own admission) got duped this time.

I don't think I've said anything incorrect or hypocritical here, you're just overreacting to your own misinterpretation of my point, which is that coaches sometimes don't turn out like you expected them to.

And I did not dispute any of those facts, so it's not worth you getting a headache either.

@fatrex

One or two beers/day,  believe it or not, are good for your heart but so, so for your weight !!

I'm with you on the beer but the salt gave me congestive heart failure !1

That is why I take my daily power walks, and switched to two (three) Marinis on Friday's !!

@Hanknaples @fatrex Who only has one or two?! Ya know it's funny I do quite a bit of hiking and last summer I was doing a tough stretch of the Appalachian trail in SW Virginia when I met a guy that went by the Trail name "Haystack".  He was in his mid 70's, but spry, he told me he was a horticulturalist in his past life but when his wife died suddenly a few years back, he just bought a backpack and started walking in the woods. He was fat, unhealthy, had 160/100 BP when he started and within 4 months he walked himself to 115/75. Pretty cool stuff.

We've revisited this argument before Bent.

@Hanknaples

That's fine, Hank.  I made the original comment to illustrate the fact that you had some positive things to say about Rex initially but that he turned out not to be everything that you thought.

I even found a comment where you admitted that you had some hope for him but that he turned out to be a fraud.

You didn't need to overreact because I was not contesting the fact that you felt he turned out to be a fraud, just pointing out the fact that if Rex disappointed you in the long run, then maybe Bowles will too.  And if that occurs, it would be nice if you didn't gloat and make fun of everyone who supported him, especially since you yourself had positive things to say about him (just like with Rex) at the outset.

Sorry it caused such a ruckus, but hopefully my reputation is intact because I had remembered you saying some positive things, even if I wasn't able to quote them word for word.

Oh, and I just apologized to you, which makes me a true man.

@tsjc68 So this scumbag is going to try and sell out his friend who helped him murder someone now that he sees money/fame isn't getting him out of this?

@tsjc68 Man, general pop is going to tear him up for this one, nothing worse than being a snitch minus being a child molestor in prison

Brendan
Brendan

@fatrex Well, being a murderer who then turns snitch to try and get out of getting life in prison is worse than snitching on your brother for stealing your dad's liquor or something. But yeah, sniveling weasels snitching to lessen their punishment are the worst.

@tsjc68 I would say if the prosecutor believed that story held water Hernandez would already have a deal. The fact that he doesn't makes you think the case against Hernandez is strong.. These are flailing attempts of a drowning man.

@johnnyl65 I saw a tweet yesterday that stated the prosecution had 130+ witnesses and took 9 months. The defense took a morning.
