Buzz: Top Priority is to swap Castillo for Hudson

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Mets do not seem concerned about Chone Figgins signing with the Mariners, as they are more focused on free-agent 2B Orlando Hudson, leaving left field open for free-agent OF Matt Holliday.

Update, 6:00 pm:

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com believes the Rockies are interested in signing Hudson.

According to Rosenthal, the Rockies tried to sign Hudson last off season, but he chose to sign with the Dodgers instead.

Original Post, 2:02 pm:

Jack Curry of the New York Times believes Omar Minaya’s top priority during next week’s Winter Meetings will be to try and trade 2B Luis Castillo so he can sign Hudson.

…like i said last month, by biggest fear is that the Mets will actually be able to trade castillo, but then turn around and make the same mistake with hudson, giving him a three-year deal that they’ll regret sooner than later… don’t get me wrong, i like hudson, and would prefer him to castillo, no question… and, yes, i am influenced by knowing he grew up a Mets fan, which shouldn’t matter to me, but it does… that said, i think there are some Mets fans out there who might be idealizing him… he’s good… but, he’s not that good

Last month, Buster Olney of ESPN.com said, “The Dodgers are aggressively seeking a second baseman.”  Later that day, Jon Heyman of SI.com said the Dodgers had contacted the Mets about Castillo, as had other teams.

Hudson hit .283 with a .357 OBP, 35 doubles, nine HR and 62 RBI in 149 games for the Dodgers in 2009.

You ought to change this to "The final regular season game at Nassau Coliseum will be Saturday, April 11th against Columbus"...unless you're commenting on the Isles playoff hopes already.

We should be just about planning the next draft party by Jan 13th. But we will not have the pick, oh well nobody will get in trouble for any of this. They should just sign Vanek, that would solve that problem!

Well, November looks brutal on paper. 5 game Western road trip vs. all the top teams (no canadian) to possibly quick start the usual monthly swoon. Then it's back home to face the Avs....followed by Penguins (twice) ...Caps (twice)...Flyers and Devils. Not the entire month in order, but it looks rough.

@nassau1  LOL I love it that you're butthurt about moving to BROOKLYN! JT and me are celebrating at Uncle Mel's across from Barclay's - drinks on him.

Your politicians and neighbors drove it away, not wang.

NYI wanted a new arena since the late 80s soon after the dynasty and it went nowhere. Torrey wished for it. The common denominator in no arena since then has been nassau/hempstead not wang or previous owners or NYI’s performance.

The arena referendum a few years ago was for many events not just NYI and the public voted NO to a $52 a year tax increase for it. I spend more than that for dinner. Only 11% of eligible voters voted. Nobody cared.

The privately funded lighthouse was shot down by republicans to keep the political party status quo not because of Wang or NYI’s performance.

As Howie Rose said, nassau aspires to be minor league. They got what they wanted and deserved.

The name of the franchise is NEW YORK islanders not LI islanders. They belong where somebody cares and that ain't nassore.

All you have is excuses blaming wang. The referendum didn’t pass because nobody cared. That it was only marketed to NYI fans and it STILL failed speaks volumes. Nassau residents weren’t approving any arena referendum win or lose team wise and  it was for more than just NYI. Attendance started to drop in the late 80s right after the dynasty. Nobody on LI cares.

Be prepared for the NYI logo to change too.  Your area lost it’s team BECAUSE NOBODY CARED! Be grateful they’re not in KC or Quebec and you still have a chance to see them. I believe the Brooklyn marketing folks have a % number in mind for changing the logo. Once they see that nassau/suffolk folks aren’t buying tickets under a certain % they will look to make the Stadium Series ‘NY" logo the main logo.

The current logo of the island land mass will look silly in Brooklyn as it doesn’t even include the place where they will play. And if Brooklyn/Queens is added to the current logo it excludes the rest of the tri-state NY metro area that will make up a big % of ticket buyers. The "NY" only reaches more people and is more appropriate. It will have a more fitting feel and appeal. Can't wait!

Here's a tissue for your tears.

@dkdk It's gonna be a sad day. Hopefully (high hops here), we make the playoffs and see at least one more series at the coliseum.

@saveuspano I was thinking the same thing, but then I remembered the Isles have been way better on the road, especially the last 1/2 of the season. Maybe it's a "blessing in disguise". Oct. 14th baby!

@tpjm @nassau1 HOW ABOUT NOT WINNING EVEN 1  SINGLE DAMN PLAYOFF ROUND.IF THEY HAD BEEN LEGITIMATE CONTENDERS UNDER WANG THEY WOULD HAVE REMAINED IN NASSAU OR SUFFOLK. BUT UNDER THIS LOSER THEY HAVENT WON EVEN 1 SINGLE DAMN PLAYOFF ROUND. THERES NO EXCUSE FOR A OPPONENT( PHILI FLYERS)TO COME INTO OUR OWN BUILDING AND BEAT US 16 GAMES IN A ROW  THAT IS SO DISGRACEFUL    F U WANG YOU B*****D

I'd feel so much better if Germany beat Ghana yesterday. Having to get a point against Germany is gonna be a tough task.

Well Bert that is because you have long established yourself as a fan of the Brooklyn expansion franchise not as that of the islanders. There is a way to be excited about Brooklyn without constantly disparaging the place tp where all 40 plus years of history took place, including a dynasty. Most people seem to relish or at least recognized where they came from.
