According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Mets do not seem concerned about Chone Figgins signing with the Mariners, as they are more focused on free-agent 2B Orlando Hudson, leaving left field open for free-agent OF Matt Holliday.
Update, 6:00 pm:
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com believes the Rockies are interested in signing Hudson.
According to Rosenthal, the Rockies tried to sign Hudson last off season, but he chose to sign with the Dodgers instead.
Original Post, 2:02 pm:
Jack Curry of the New York Times believes Omar Minaya’s top priority during next week’s Winter Meetings will be to try and trade 2B Luis Castillo so he can sign Hudson.
…like i said last month, by biggest fear is that the Mets will actually be able to trade castillo, but then turn around and make the same mistake with hudson, giving him a three-year deal that they’ll regret sooner than later… don’t get me wrong, i like hudson, and would prefer him to castillo, no question… and, yes, i am influenced by knowing he grew up a Mets fan, which shouldn’t matter to me, but it does… that said, i think there are some Mets fans out there who might be idealizing him… he’s good… but, he’s not that good…
Last month, Buster Olney of ESPN.com said, “The Dodgers are aggressively seeking a second baseman.” Later that day, Jon Heyman of SI.com said the Dodgers had contacted the Mets about Castillo, as had other teams.
Hudson hit .283 with a .357 OBP, 35 doubles, nine HR and 62 RBI in 149 games for the Dodgers in 2009.
