Buzz: The Mets are Fixated on Molina

David Lennon of Newsday says the Mets remain fixated on free-agent C Bengie Molina,” who is seeking a three-year deal, worth as much as $20 million, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.

…it’s funny, because, personally, i don’t think he’s worth one year… so, i wonder how negotiations would go if i was GM of the Mets… i bet we’d enjoy a good lunch, though

…i had been saying during the Winter Meetings, last week, that the Mets would prefer to sign a catcher to just a one-year contract; and so, if molina is looking for three, the Mets might relent, eventually offering two guaranteed seasons, which i feel is a mistake, not just because his OBP and weight are getting dangerously close, but because he’s a 35–year-old catcher… and when is signing a 35–year-old catcher, without the DH, ever a smart move
