Buzz: Roy Oswalt Requests Trade from Astros

According to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, Astros ace Roy Oswalt has formally requested a trade from the Houston Astros.

…hat tip to MLB Trade Rumors for the link…

…obviously, Oswalt is exactly what the Mets need in their starting rotation, but i wonder if he would waive his no trade clause to come to the Mets…he wants to join a contender, and while i’d like to think the Mets will be in the mix down the stretch, i wonder if he agrees…forgetting the financial cost, i have to believe the cost in talent back to the Astros will be significant as well, as i have to believe they will want one major league ready starter plus a bevy of top-tiered talent in return for Oswalt, and so i have to wonder if the Mets would be willing to part with a package like that, or take a chance and go after Cliff Lee in free agency this winter…

Oswalt, who has a full no-trade clause, will earn $15 million in 2010, $16 million in 2011, and has a $16 million club option or a $2 million buyout in 2012 as part of a five year, $73 million contract he signed with the Astros in 2007.
