Buzz: RA Dickey the New Staff Saver

the buzz around the team is that RA Dickey will be called up from Triple-A Buffalo to start for the Mets on Wednesday, in place of Oliver Perez, who was been removed from the starting rotation… Hisanori Takahashi will start Friday, in place of the injured Jon Niese… however, takahashi is expected to stay in the rotation, to replace perez, with dickey going to the bullpen, when niese is able to pitch again

Last night, Red Sox RHP Tim Wakefield pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

He started for the Red Sox five days before that, and allowed three runs in seven innings against the Blue Jays.

So far this season, the 43–year-old Wakefield has made five starts and pitched four games in relief.

i’m interested to see if dickey can be the same type of pitcher for the Mets… so they say, because he mostly throws knuckleballs, he is able to pitch for longer stretches, with less time needed to warm up, and he doesn’t need as much of a routine… like wakefield… and so, if takahasi is replacing perez in the rotation, dickey can be the team’s long-man, spot starter, random reliever, etc., or, sort of like a utility pitcher
