Buzz: Nationals Express Interest in Roy Oswalt

According to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, the Nationals have expressed interest in acquiring Astros ace Roy Oswalt.

Kligore says the Nationals are interested in acquiring a starting pitcher, although GM Mike Rizzo would neither confirm or deny the team’s interest in the 32-year old Oswalt.

On Saturday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune said Oswalt formally requested a trade from the Astros, which you can read about here.

…the Nationals are a little thin in their rotation, especially now that Scott Olsen is having shoulder problems and on the disabled list, but if they were to acquire Oswalt and if Stephen Strasburg comes up and performs as he has in the minors so far, suddenly their rotation becomes quite formidable…

…i think Oswalt is the ideal guy the Mets need to add to the rotation, but i fear the cost could be too much to digest…i would think Houston would want a major league-ready starter in return, plus top tiered prospects, and like i said on saturday, i wonder whether or not it’s worth investing the talent and money to land a 32 year old starter, or go after Cliff Lee who i think is a much better fit for this team, this winter in free agency…

…in an ideal world, i don’t see why the Mets couldn’t acquire two top-tiered starting pitchers over the next year, but i don’t know if the Mets would do that this winter…

What do you think?
