Buzz: Mets scouting O's, like Jake Westbrook

Last night against the Yankees, Kevin Millwood let up six runs and 10 hits, including two home runs.

Millwood has a 5.43 ERA in his last eight starts.

from what i can gather, the Mets had scouts in Baltimore last night as they’ll playing the Orioles this weekend, but they were also in house to look in to millwood, Jeremy Guthrie and other pitchersthankfully, they’re also interested in Indians RHP Jake Westbrook…

in either case, they have little interest in trading top prospects, like Jenrry Mejia, to get M’s LHP Cliff Lee or Astros RHP Roy Oswalt… the Mariners, who are in no rush to make a deal, are rumored to be asking teams for top position prospects, such as Yankees C Jesus Montero, as well as young pitching… also, i’ve heard Seattle likes Jon Niese in a deal for leemost people i talk to, though, believe lee’s price will drop, especially if the Mariners keep losing

however, the buzz in baseball seems to be that teams are waiting until the end of the month to begin serious trade talks… for instance, like most NL teams, the Mets want to get through interleague play, when they can stretch out their bench and rotation, assess where they are at the half-way mark, and if they’re in both pennant races and, say, five to 10 games above .500, they’ll pick up talks with other teams

The Mets travel to Baltimore this weekend, then play the Indians next week.

in the end, the Mets would like to acquire a reliable, experienced, innings-eater for the starting rotation, which would allow Hisanori Takahashi to go back to relief, further bolstering the bullpen

The 32–year-old Westbrook is 3–3 with a 4.84 ERA this season.

He is earning $11 million this season, after which he is eligible to be a free agent.
