Buzz: Mets are Out of Money

In a report for Fox Sports.com, Ken Rosenthal and John Morosi write, “The Mets are out of money,” according to major-league sources, which is keeping them from signing free-agent C Rob Barajas.

i can’t say whether this is true or not; but, it is peculiar that the team had earmarked $12 million for Joel Pineiro and Bengie Molina, yet, since the two players signed elsewhere, there has been talk of the team being unable to spend on players like Ben Sheets or even Yorvit Torrealba or barajas, who would cost only a million bucks or so…

…that said, i do not think money is reason for not signing John Lackey or pineiro, or molina, all of whom i think they had a set value on, and refused to go beyond… i understand how this could be viewed as being cheap, but i think it’s actually a matter of not overvaluing mediocre talent…

…in regards to lackey, the Mets, and most every other team, had concerns about his elbow, and refused to exceed a certain amount of years… also, because his contract was impossible to insure, most every team wanted guarantees in the deal, to protect against injury, and the Red Sox were the only team willing to take the risk

In the Daily News, Adam Rubin quotes a team official as saying, “We are pretty much done.”

"Sorry J.R. but the joke is on you. Sure maybe we are taking this too seriously but in reality, you’re the one who’s acted like a clown all year."

Agreed 100%,H.D...

J.R should wear a pair of these on the bench..

If we lose a game or two and shump or someone has a bad game, you all will be begging to give JR another chance. Relax

As a Met fan I remember Roger McDowell was a funny cut-up as well, he also was worth his weight when it mattered. There is no sense of humor on a 13-22 team.

I seriously think if this game was at home he would get booed from the moment his name is announced coming into the game. This guy did a complete 360. What a scrub, wow son.. you killing me.. i would take mr.85 percent over this guy now any day. And that's saying a LOT

The scary thing about this ; if all the reports are true, is that it took Dolan to discipline JR. If it were up to Woodson he would probably still be playing 30+ min a night as if nothing happened. What does that say about the coach?

Shoelacegate! This entire story is stupid and getting old. He untied a shoelace who cares..we do have a guy on the team who beat the crap out of a fan and rooted for a player who choked his coach.

Untying a shoe? Really?

If I have to hear him say "it is what it is" one more time I'm gonna puke. "He is what he is", clueless, classless and a very mediocre ballplayer. The Knicks got duped by this guy and that's their fault. Give guys playing time who are proud to wear the uniform. We all have senses of humor, but there is a time and a place for it.

This guy is an idiot beyond pale.  There is no saving this guy from himself.  And he killed someone to boot.  Get rid of him.

Shumps +\- in the last 5games has been incredible so with Jr sitting means more minutes for Shump which means winning. Then you add Murry with Shump in the backcourt and the team plays even better. So if you do the Math sitting Jr equals win win for Knicks

Woody told him to stop when he didn't it's not about humor is about respect for your coach.

I wonder how he would feel if another player untied his shoelaces, he tripped and tore up his knee and was out for a year.  Would the joke be on him?

I don't mind JR untying players shoe laces if he's producing but he's not so he needs to just focus on basketball. I can't lie, it is funny.. Lol

More Murry!!!

I'll say I'll be very disappointed if JR sees the court tonight.  Obviously he's not learning any lessons or anything, and a one game benching isn't gonna do anything.  I still think JR can eventually help this team again, but if you want anything to stick you gotta keep him benched for 3-5+ games imo.

Especially if we continue to win and play well without him, which I expect us to based on how much of a cancer he's been so far this year.  I think overall, to be honest anyway though, there is a better fit to this team with the Shump/Timmy/Toure sg and pg rotation.  Those young guys play serious d and get out there with speed and athleticism to run on breaks.

Can we get a vid of Thwjr dunking on Ray Allen?

Lets be honest though, the reaction to JR antics have nothing to do with the actions themselves.  They have everything to do with how he is playing.  The only reason people are up in arms calling him a clown, wanting Woodson to bench him etc is because he's playing poorly.  If this happened last season when JR was playing well and the team was rolling no one would care.  Everyone would laugh it off as JR being JR.

Open letter to JR:

JR, all due respect, but you're a complete idiot.

This season has been a complete disaster, and the only thing you've done is make things worse with all your antics on and off the court, disrupting chemistry and making things hard for everyone.

You've been given preferential treatment by the FO which has given you everything you've asked for, you've taken advantage of this as well with your lack of professionalism.

On top of all that, you ain't playing for isht. If you actually gave a damn about your teammates and yourself, you'd understand completely why you find yourself in this present predicament, and if you have the slightest of ethics, you'd sit for a while.

The Knicks have to have the worst owner in the NBA. JR can do just about anything; drugs, drinking before playoff games, threatening other players, etc.... and never have an issue. Then when his brother gets cut, he posts an instagram about betrayal that offends Dolan. Now that is considered serious and the other stuff isn't.......

@tw22 there is no sense of humor when you go from 6th man of the year to one of the least wanted players in the league with no game in evidence.

@DrJonathanReefer It's not just about untying shoes though. It's about a player with a history of erratic behavior and insubordination defying his bosses and biting the hand that feeds him. So i guess he can just continue being a knuckle head without any repercussions? I truly believe this team is better off without him. He was never that good a player to be given the special treatment he thought he deserved. Knicks should just cut their losses and get rid of him by any means necessary.

All I care about is Philly tonight and extending this winning streak! With or without JR ! The show must go on!!

His sense of entitlement has overcome his ability to perceive the events surrounding his situation. Next he will feel he is a victim.

@ReneNYK1 Yeah, sure it is.  And if he was playing like he did last season, I'm sure Woodson would have done exactly the same thing.  JR never did anything before to embarrass the team or his coach (sarcasm).

JR's biggest mistake was the ruckus he caused with Dolan and team management after his brother was cut.  That was the beginning of the end.  Last year, he said all the right things, and nobody complained about his clownish antics (at least not before the nonsense involving Jason Terry in the playoffs).

1harris1
1harris1

@foley Is it something done by other players in the league, though? JR claims he's been doing it for years, and was done to him last week by Dwight Howard.  All of his shoelace stuff is nonsense-just a convenient opportunity for Dolan to lay the hammer on this guy.

I love all the commenters and tweeps calling JR a "punk"; "moron", etc.  How many of them were calling him that last year, when he was the same person he is now?  Funny, I don't remember hearing too much of it.

brookdon

Well duh. Dennis Rodman was full of his antics as well but once he got on the court he played and played very well. JR is being stupid AND not backing it up with his play.

@Knicks_Fanatic He guaranteed 500K which is never done so that should piss him off,it's perfectly justified.Jr showed no respect for the owner by saying that betraying crap, his brother sucks and he gave him 500K he should be greatful,Jr is a spoiled brat and a complete moron but he is very talented and we do have to turn him around the way Jordan did with Rodman and get his best game he;'s too good to give up on.

VerySilentJay

@Knicks_Fanatic  Only good thing about it, if you get on his bad side, you're done.

It appaers this is the case with JR.

Well everyone was blaming him for awhile, barg, shumpert, Melo, Woodson, and now smith. This is obviously going to pass as the media stops using him as a scapegoat. Just relax and try to enjoy the fact that were starting to play better. Let's get another win. Stop being so negative.

@OLD_KNICK @ReneNYK1

Wow.  Woody has gone to bat for JR so many times.  Woody was starting James White at 2G just so JR could stay in the running for 6MOY.  You'd think JR would be more thankful to the one guy that's been in his corner.

(And JR also upset the boss upstairs! That's a big no-no, lol.  He should've known better.)

@1harris1 to say hes the same person now has too many loose strings:

- now isn't a contract year

- got suspended for smoking up this year

- shooting the mid thirties for shooting percentage this year

the list goes on and on. if you restrict the situation to just basketball I don't mind benching JR cuz let's face it - hes been horrible in almost every way on the court this year

@Danny Ryu@1harris1 So he wasn't smoking weed last year?  The guy was seemingly clubbing it up every night last season.  Nobody cared when he was playing well, and many viewed it as funny.

I obviously agree that his play this year has been completely different than last year, but personality-character wise?  Same dude.
