Buzz: Mejia has Best Chance to Go North

Jon Heyman of SI.com says of all of the Mets “phenoms” this Spring, Jenrry Mejia has the best chance to break camp with the Mets, and the plan right now is to have both Ike Davis and Ruben Tejada go to Triple-A Buffalo to open the season.

…so now i’m a bit confused, considering yesterday the thought was Tejada might in fact be the Opening Day shortstop, because he is considered their best defensive option…i feel the Mets should go with their best defensive option, because i feel being strong defensively up the middle will give this team the best chance to win while they wait for Jose Reyes to return…regarding Mejia, like we’ve said before, it’s really tempting given his strong performance this Spring, but right now, i don’t feel as though the team has a long term plan for him, and like Matt said yesterday, the last thing this kid needs is to mix him up by putting him in the bullpen with eyes on becoming a starter, or vice versa, ala Joba Chamberlain…i say come up with a plan for him, whether its for him to become a starter or reliever, stick with it, and develop him accordingly in the minors to make him the best possible pitcher over the long haul…
