According to Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, Jose Reyes would be available via trade, but the Mets want a “boat load” in return for him.
Last month, Mets GM Sandy Alderson essentially said nobody is untouchable, but he would be partial to keeping certain players, especially the home grown ones, and if a team was interested in certain talents, the asking price would be significant.
Earlier today, as on WFAN, Alderson was asked about extending Reyes beyond 2011, and Alderson said “let’s see how he plays”.
The word around the Mets is that any player not guaranteed of being in New York after next season is possibly available via trade, so this makes sense.
Having said that, I’d be very surprised if the Mets deal Reyes this winter, but it’s hard not to fantasize about the talent He would bring back in a potential trade. I said at the end of the season that the Mets can leave no stone unturned and if a deal is presented for anyone, including Reyes and David Wright, the Mets should at least listen.
