Buzz: Bengie Molina Wants a Three Year Deal

Ken Davidoff of Newsday says in light of other catchers receiving two year deals, Bengie Molina is seeking a three year contract.

…if that’s the case, i see no reason for the Mets to commit to him at that price…i just don’t think it’s wise to give a 35 year old catcher a three year deal, and it would certainly be unwise to expect him to catch 140 games even if it was only a two year deal

What is the 4th line supposed to be? Do they have a defined role? Have they been told what it is? THEY HAVE 1 GOAL BETWEEN THEM!  I don't expect Bossy, but how about a little Steve Webb-limited ice but when he got out there watch out.  The 4th gets almost as much ice as 2-3.  Look at the Wild they're 6-3, good players (forget the collapse vs Rags), but no stars (maybe Parise), very good goalers, BUT they have a system they stick to, most games they attack in waves off the dump and chase.  I'm sure Yeo changes things as needed.  Like many have said we don't look like we have a system, or we had one, it broke and now no one knows what to do.  Ugghh

The Isles might just have the worst team defense in the league! The goaltending has'nt been much better then last year! Since Fred Flintstone was made coach, every team in the Metropolitan division has made at least one coaching change. This team with all the "upgrades" has very little chance of making the playoffs under this clueless coach. The PP was working pretty well until he took Nielsen off of it and replaced him with Viz. The penalty kill has been the worst in the league from the outset of the season but no changes are made! With Conacher on it, the first line it has become a "third" line! This has the makings of a 0 and 5 road trip destroying the good start this team had! Snow better bring in a real coach (Byslma ?) before this season spins out of control!

This is a nasty road trip.  If the team wants Cappy to be their coach, they had better find a way to get 2 wins.  There is no time for patience any longer.  As recent experience has shown, long losing streaks in Nov kill the season.  This cannot happen.  I hope Snow has feelers out already to NHL coaches who might be interested (Weight is not the answer).  Snow did a good job in the off season, but it will mean nothing if the season slips away in Nov.  They had better win tomorrow because the Ducks and the Kings will not be kind to us.

@mrcisback You cant lead from behind.Capuano fails to lead .There is no punishment for bad play.K.o is back to two years ago running around in circles only now he has J.T. following his lead, they look like Two Indians circling the wagon train out there..What system is Capuano running out there? They would be better off with a modified trap at least they would not turn the puck over so much and it would create offense off its turnovers. The 1980s Edmonton Oilers power play that Weight has brought is a joke Everything is rehearsed.Dump the puck, get guys in front of the net, get it to the point, period that should be there power play. This Team is talented just totally mismanaged.I agree with Strait being sent down  not De Haan .It is not  His fault for having to carry that Human  turnover machine .I will not judge Him until he plays with an N.H.L Demen not Capuanos fishing buddy.

I come to the conclusion that the Islanders only have 3 very dependable defenseman. Boychuk,Leddy and Hamonic. Visnovsky at 38 is not dependable at all. The rest of the defenseman are very inconsistent in my opinion. Maybe Reinhart,Pulock,Chucrzman will add to those top 3 defenseman at some point in the season.

truth77
truth77

They need to bring Chucrzman up ,bring up Pullock up ,Put Lee or Kulimen on the first line .Fire the Coach.Waive Conacher .Stop being figure skaters and get in front  of both creases.Size has nothing to do with being chicken crap ,It is Heart and last night there was not  even a heart beat. The Coach is a friend not a Coach. The Islanders play like they just met at the pond and chose up Teams, no system what so ever.

It's easy to just blame the goaltenders for the recent losses, and yes, they have not played anywhere near where either of them are capable. There does seen to be a soft goal every night.  Inexcusable!

However, we continue to fail to clear the puck when we have the chance.  I think they flip the puck up the boards because they know that they will be out muscled for it if they don't.  How about not making those desperate slow flips up the boards to the waiting opposition D.  Try fighting for the puck in the corner which will give the rest of the team a chance for positional coverage rather than being forced to run around which results in goals.  The goalies have struggled.  But they have track records and I have to think that they will be OK in the long run.  The team can help our struggling goalies by tightening up in their own zone.

finnmaccul

@redly.  Yes but we got few prolonged cycles 5 on 5 which we used to do well off.  Last night we seem to come into O zone get a low percentage shot or two and go back the other way.  JT is doing too much, trying to carry the puck thru traffic like he's Denny Savard.  They're all trying to make bad passes right thru opponents like they're not there.

redly

we pounded them in shots 40 to 23,,,,, Our goalies just need to play better,,,, kinda like the goalies we have faced

That game had nothing to do with Corey or the coach,,,,,

Are there any other coaches out there besides Blysma?  Both goalies have allowed soft goals, but the D are letting guys stand or cruise in front every night.  I forget which goal it was but Hickey was on a guy in front and had one hand on his own stick which was laying loosely on the Av guy's stick, pass into the Av, deflected in no problem. Weak very Fn weak.

Capuano belongs on a car lot. Bring in Blysma and save the season

I have been bashing Snow since he became GM. He did what he had to this off season. He signed 2 quality goalies, made trades for 2 quality players in an effort to solidify the D. signed 2 quality Fwds adding talent and depth. I have no problem with Snow's moves with the exception of 1... keeping Capuano.

He's just not a good coach. The Isles can't hang on to him too long. I'd say give it 15-17 games. If things aren't going well, get rid of him for a PROVEN NHL coach. Sorry, Weight, the Islanders don't need another rookie bench boss.

The fact of the matter is this team is poorly coached end of story.

Cappy has never won at any level as a player or coach, so he has imo no credentials to be coaching in the big leagues.

And the fact that Snow fails to acknowledge this is beyond comprehension.

This road trip is going to be very interesting

Snow has been here 8-9 years and STILL has not developed even a NHL back up type goalie. The best of the bunch he has drafted, he's allowed to go play in Russia.

Do you guys get the feeling that if Snow was given 40 years to develop his franchise goalie, he will have the same success the Jets have had replacing Namath?

Is it december already or just starting the annual swoon earlier this year

Have Snow or Cappy checked on the last time the first line scored at even strength? Keep running Conacher out there boys.

Only way this team can win is for the goalies to play better. When or if that will happen, I don't know.

Our goaltending, amazingly enough, is EVEN worse than last year.

WTF?   Is it me or has the new goalies that Snowballs brought in are playing at the same crappy level as the ones they replaced?   There were too many deflating soft goals let in over the last few games, especially in last night's game.   When the other team goalie is playing lights out, you can't be letting goals in from behind net!

Also when does Snowballs finally pull the plug on the underwhelming Jack Capuuano, who always seems to be out coached.   Hopefully Garth has Dan Bylsma in his Rolodex.   I wouldn't be upset if Snow brings back Scott Gordon, it wasn't his fault that Snow left him with a minor league team trying to compete in the NHL and expects him to win!

Normally at 6-4-0 after 10 games I would be happy, but continued bad goaltending is going to cost this teams games and give the Sabers a really good draft pick.   This is a well put together, talented, team, that should be rolling, which is why the game against the Jets is a bad sign.

WTF went on here? Too high an altitude or too much weed? They seemed very lethargic.

@islesfan77- have a good night, and a better weekend.

Toni/Bammer- good luck with the TV show. Glad your both big fans of Dina Lohan- at least she has two..

Toni- enjoy the Gordon costume and the trick or treating. Hopefully everybody is an Isles fan, or you will look more out of place then usual.

@TonyM If this is an 0-5 road trip (6 game losing streak), Cappy's NHL coaching career should end in Arizona.  Snow has to be feeling the pressure to win with new ownership coming in.  He may have no choice.

mrcisback

@truth77 Not a bad idea and maybe send deHaan down with his 1 point in 7 games already. His defense has been very shaky so far this season.

@finnmaccul    JT IS trying to do too much.  He needs a real line mate other than KO.  Move Kulemin up there and see what happens.  The theory has been that we don't want to weaken lines 2 or 3 but line 1 is not potentiating itself and needs an adjustment.  The excuse of being 6-2 and not wanting to change anything no longer applies.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

@redly might be true but the defense did not look good at all, the powerplay was in complete disarray, and to be honest i dont think the isles have played to their ability one game yet this year.  its frustrating to watch them play below their potential.

tavares and KO havent looked good at all as of late either.  i still think the isles will be fine this year, but there are some things they need to figure out fast, and the goalies need to wake up.

@finnmaccul

woulda been nice if a crease clearing young superstar d man we were supposed to have here this year was ready...a certain someone talked all last year about him and spoke in terms of him being a lock to make the team this year ..everytime the brutal d was mentioned last year a wait till next year and Rinehart's here post would appear...guess ya shouldn't count on chickens hatching or overly positive posters..

Vicp73
Vicp73

@fan42long 42long why even wait til 15-17 games, this guy is completely clueless. I still can't figured out what kind of system this team plays.

And what makes things even more frustrating is Snow bringing in a complete failure in Greg Cronin to run our defense.

@Scott Weinstein Yup I was blasted on here for complaining about the soft goals Halak was giving up, now he seems to be second choice to Johnson who has made soft goal an artform

@Scott Weinstein Never thought about it, but amazingly you're right. How long before we see Poulin in the nets because of an injury? He'll solve everything.

@since72 @finnmaccul  JT doesn't look like the same player for some reason. Is it possible he has regressed or maybe he's not 100% (ie last yrs injury)? KO has regressed to the player we all saw 2-3 yrs ago. His skating is brutal & he looks lost. I personally do not feel all their issues can simply be placed on the LW issue. Time for them two to find their mojo on both sides of the puck. As Arbour used to preach if you're not scoring 5 on 5 than keep the puck out of your own net.

fan42long
fan42long

@Vicp73 So true. What kind of system do they play? They look chaotic out there. The goaltending isn't helping. But yeah, I can't figure out what these Isles are all about. And Conacher on the top line is driving me bonkers. Who does Conacher scare??? I want a big body out there that isn't afraid to get in front of the net. Now who could that Lee, I mean be.

@fan42long @Vicp73 lol, don't get me  going on the Conacher topic. when your released by the Sabres and Ottawa all in the same year what does that tell you

bammer26
bammer26

@Vicp73 - In the voice of Bob Cole, "yesss sir". But this is been brewing now since the Leafs and Jets home stinkers. Add in the injuries, softies by Halak (although not in net last night), the PP in the toilet as of late, the first line MIA and a trip into thin air last night, voila, a perfect recipe for what was/will continue.

I was at the Panther game last night, along with close to 4K other puck fans in a big 20K beautiful building, and still decided to watch until 3AM this morning. We have all seen this picture before, just with different actors if you will.

All is in place for getting swept and starting the usual. I was chatting with a good friend during the game, and the convo came up on Cappy. We both used the analogy of having high performance cars and no proper drivers to get them to run to their specs.

Get the first line going. Make a move with Conacher say a switch in lines with WHOEVER, sit Strait for a couple, anything to mix it up and change the stench. We are heading into 3 hornets nests in SJ, LA, ANA.

And the Yotes are no slouches either. Sure there's been injuries, but DEPTH and GOALTENDING were suppose to be the saviors this year. Hope Boychuk and Leddy can throw something in character wise in the room...

Still early, but it's starting to happen AGAIN.

bammer26
bammer26

@tonelli27 - Plenty. Just what the Roy ordered with plenty of open ice. He's got great lateral movement, almost to a Denis Savard type for a right handed shot. I said, ALMOST...LOL. Only one Savard and his skill...

Vicp73
Vicp73

@bammer26 And just imagine Chicago and Boston don't have cap issues and Johnny 'Rocket and Leddy aren't  wearing an Isles uni?

just think there are those on this very site that were confident in the blue line  going into this season.

wow it could have really been ugly

@Vicp73- Coaching staff with Organizational depth they are lacking. Mike Dunham still tender coach in place. No secret he is a long time buddy of Snow.

Let's see where these chips fall over the next week or so. SS Cappy has officially begun to take on water, turn on the bilge pumps or get a new skipper.
