Bud Selig doesn’t understand why people question Mets ownership

MLB commissioner Bud Selig continues to say he has no concern about the ownership, financial state or direction of the Mets (Daily News, May 13).

“I’m very optimistic about what they’re doing,” Selig said. “The only people telling me to have concerns are people who don’t know and haven’t seen any facts.”

Earlier this week, Mets President Saul Katz adamantly denied a report that said he had interest in selling his portion of the Mets (NY Times, May 12).

The direction this team is going financially is scary to me...every year is 'we'll be good next year...I hate to say it but if they were still playing at shea they would be getting 10k at a lot of games (and this coming from someone who misses the old park)...

So, the fact that they are in one of the biggest commercial markets in the world and have a payroll in the bottom third of the league isn't a troubling fact? Attendance losses year over year isn't troubling? Ratings declines for their network doesn't bother anyone in the least? According to a recent NY Times study this is one of three teams that doesn't have at least a plurality of support in any U.S. zip code. There aren't even more Mets fans than Yankees fans in flushing and that doesn't send up a red flag about ownership? I guess I just must not know.

Bud doesn't have a problem with the Wilpons. In fact, he loves them. Why? Because by not spending like the Yankees, it keeps free agent salaries lower than they would otherwise be.  This at least gives the small market teams a fighting chance. If Fred was a second Steinbrenner salaries would increase so much that the Pirates, Twins, Royals, etc couldn't compete anymore. They can barely sign anyone now.  A second high spending owner in New York would be the death knoll of a lot of other teams

Knucklehead comment from a blathering, liver-lipped (personal attack) idiot.

I've never thought Selig was very sharp. He's essentially the mouthpiece for the entire ownership.

In other words, if you don't agree with me, you must be an idiot. Selig must think that there are a lot of idiots in NY.

@metsblog because they've been losing too many baseball games in a big market that rewards winning. Look at the record across town

This is the guy who went out of his way to violate baseball rules to keep them in control.

New York Daily News continues in its work as the Wilpons' crisis public relations practice.

Their are a lot of Things Bud Light doesn't understand, like how he and hks Gang of Crooks turned aBlind Eye to Drugs which allowed baseballplayers to become multi millionaires, while his gang became billionaires, and our precious baseball records be tarnished forever. The fans know what a phony he is, it's too bad we can't keep him out of The HOF, hopefully the writers will do that for us fans! Dont let h fool you, the man is a slime ball!!! He understands our anger only too well!!!

Bud Selig approves of the actions of Mets' ownership!  Approving actions!  Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more.

I have a best friend who is an absolute train wreck. However, I'm constantly telling his wife to get off his back and chill out. That's what you do for your friends. Turn a blind eye and get their back. You know they're kuckleheads, but you can't let anybody else call them out.

Foolish old Bud is just trying to get his boy's back. Problem is, we all have eyes, ears, and brains.

Bud Selig is buddies with the Wilpons and Sandy. He's done his best to cover the Wilpons butts in handling the Mets. It will be good for MLB when Selig is gone and the Wilpons' sell the club, then we all come up winners.

NY Times - Wilpon is a member of Selig's Executive Committee. Only a portion of owners participate.  I bet this is when the two of them bond personally.

Just how stupid is Bud Selig? When a New York City sports franchise is running its payroll in the bottom third of the league, there is something CLEARLY wrong with the ownership. The Mets have a payroll around Oakland and Tampa Bay, where either the owners are really fiscally cheap, or the fans don't show up because people just don't care. Mets fans really care! We want to see our team spend on par with not the Yankees or the Dodgers, but Detroit, Anaheim, and Philadelphia. We're not asking for a $200 million dollar payroll, but we can't win without a New York caliber payroll. Actually, we could, but Alderson is a moron. He gets WAY too much credit for this rebuild. We've watched Beltran, K-Rod, Pagan, nd even Ollie revitalize their careers, while we watch useless scrubs like Rice, Farnsworth, Valverde, Tejada, among others add to our teams failures. If that moron Selig can't see the serious flaws, then he really needs to leave the game! It's his fault that Bonds nd other cheaters broke records, but he also was so quick to kick McCourt out of the game. But when Wilpon actually invested in Bernie Madoff, he congratulates them.

Bud Selig will ALWAYS side with ownership, as he was an owner himself. He is an even bigger clown than the Wilpons.

Bud Selig = MLB Mafia.

We Met fans have not only seen the facts we have lived them.

I understand Fred Wilpon is Bud's friend and I have tried to give Fred the benefit of the doubt because I believe him to be a good man. But greed caused the financial issues and now the main concern seems to be making sure Jeff has a job for life. After all who else would hire him? That is not good for the NY Mets or us fans. Making business decisions based on nepotism is not wise.

It is time to turn the page, Bud to retire and the Wilpon's to sell the team and take the money and run. We deserve better than they are able to give us, they have lost any credibility they had left with the fans.

Lets Go Mets!

The fact he doesn't understand why our fanbase is rightfully disillusioned is crazy...until you realize Selig is a former owner..being paid by the owners.

"Don't know and haven't seen any facts." Has he been to a Met game or read any headline in the last five years?
