The Mets (Cafardo, Dec. 1), Phillies, Reds and Angels (Zolecki, Dec. 9) are among a dozen teams with interest in free-agent RHP Bronson Arroyo, who could sign a three-year, $36 million deal at the Winter Meetings. (Sherman, Dec. 10).
According to one report on Tuesday, the Mets and Reds were making a strong push to sign him (Wolfson, Dec. 10). But the Reds are now telling other clubs they expect Arroyo to sign elsewhere (Stark, Dec. 11).
It was reported last week that the Twins and Mets were aggressively pursuing him (Cotillo, Dec. 5). However, a follow-up report on Tuesday indicated the Mets were not interested (Heyman), which is similar to what a team official said last week (Rubin, Dec. 2).
In addition to the Twins, the Pirates (Olney, Dec. 9) and Mets (Puma, Dec. 6, Cafardo, Dec. 2) were supposedly interested in meeting with Arroyo’s representatives during the Winter Meetings, though the Pirates may no longer be interested (Biertempfel, Dec. 10).
Arroyo has said previously he has offers on the table, but as of Monday he was not yet ready to sign a new contract (Cafardo, Dec. 9). He is reportedly looking for a three-year deal (Rubin, Nov. 30) and says he would definitely consider signing with the Mets (Martino, Nov. 1).
