Bobby Valentine sent the following text message to Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reporter Tom Haudricourt:
”There has been no conversation about a contract with your team. Not one word has been mentioned to me and I have not mentioned to anyone there about a contract.”
Updated at 1:05 pm:
In a post to Twitter, Haudricourt says a local radio station is reporting Valentine and the Brewers have agreed in principle to make him their next manager.
Since most buzz indicated there is zero chance Alderson would hire Valentine, I wonder if today’s news led Valentine to lock in something with the Brewers?
Original Post at 8:26 am:
“Valentine is a finalist for the Brewers’ managerial job,” says FoxSports.com.
The thing is, best I can count, Valentine has been mentioned as a favorite or leading candidate for the Marlins and Mariners jobs this off season as well, and he ended up with neither.
Jon Heyman of SI.com later said, “Valentine has told folks he was very impressed with the Brewers people but isn’t necessarily expecting to get the job.”
Heyman says the Brewers are also considering Bob Melvin and Joey Cora, as is Angels coach Ron Roenicke, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
