Bobby Parnell virtually untouchable this winter

‘Bobby Parnell is virtually untouchable this winter,’ says Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Parnell earned $504,000 in 2012 and is eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter.

There is an argument to be made for selling high on Parnell. He had a good season in 2012. He had much better command of his fastball and secondary pitches. But, who is the real Parnell? Is he the guy from last season, or the season before?

Up until last year, he had been nothing more than a flamethrower with an inconsistent approach to pitching. There is no immediate fallback to Parnell if the Mets trade him, though, which is probably the biggest argument for keeping him.

The Mets are reportedly going to wait out the bullpen market until later this winter, meaning they are going to likely go with many of their young incumbents. If that’s the case, the Mets have to keep Parnell, unless they are bowled over in a deal.
