Bobby Parnell behind schedule, but feeling great

Bobby Parnell said he is two weeks behind his normal off-season schedule, but ‘feeling great,’ he told reporters in St. Lucie on Monday (Rubin, Feb. 10).

Parnell underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck last September.

“I’ve had no setbacks or pain or anything like that,” he said.

The team has reportedly been looking to add one more relief pitcher on a minor-league deal and recently watched free-agent RHP Joel Hanrahan toss a light bullpen session in Texas (Carig, Feb. 7).

I give Parnell a tip of the cap. He's shown up the last few years and acted like a guy who belongs in the major leagues. More than I can say for a lot of others who wilted under the bright lights. I don't give a rats rail what you've done in AAA. Do it here. Parnell hasn't been perfect but he's certainly pitched with some heart and cujones. I wish him well.

Here we go again with the conditioning bulls---!

Mets had their chances to upgrade the bullpen and they let them sign elsewhere, I can see Parnell having set backs and leaving the mets with Vic Black trying to close games (he may or may not do well) in that role but mets have set this team up for bullpen failure at this point in time, horrible job  by them putting everything on young/unproven arms.

I wanted to comment on the Juan lagares post added right above this one and does not allow to comment. At least not yet.

I do not get how this team can let guys like Tejada and Davis all but have guaranteed spots who are big time under achievers, but Juan Lagares, who last year was one of the best CF in baseball, a position which is crucial to have a plus defender and is usually the leader of the outfield, he ha to fight for his job.

It is bad enough we don't improve the team

Worse that we are keeping Davis but primarily Tejada

Now they are going to screw with a young guy who is beyond his years defensively and his job is in question???

Talk about priorities out of whack

take it easy Bobby.I think Vic Black,Jeurys Famillia will do damage until your ready to get back. The Mets got arms I think maybe Mets should include Montero in the mix to close out games...

Again the cheap Mets give us no reason to invest our Money in them. Utility players as starters needs to change quickly or none of my money will go their way I promise you that. No money has gone their way the last four years

So Parnell is behind schedule, of course Mets don`t go after Rodney, don`t go after Balfour...No Drew, they have Tejada a utilty player starting at SS...they can`t trade Ike Davis because nobody else wants him. They should`ve given Ike & his $4 million salary away for anything. They give Ike & C.Young $11 million for hitting .210 combined. Should`ve spent that $11 million on a Rodney or another good player. Tough being a Mets fan!

What worries me most is Aaron Laffey is warming up in the background.  Even though I"m aware this is an old picture, it's still scary.

i read this to say he is not behind his rehab schedule ... he is only behind his normal off-season schedule.  Should be able to make that up before opening day, no?

If parnell is behind schedule then hanrahan should not be mentioned in the same sentence...he is not a logical fall back option for parnell, because he will not be ready until may the earliest...they need to get a healthy pitcher

@Victor Triguero if they do not add drew, tejada has the job by default...they just don't have another major league SS...davis is not guaranteed a spot, but he will most likely be the 1B unless they trade or release him...he had an awful year last year, but had some success in his first 2 seasons, so they feel last year was an anamoly and again not much competition here...the mets had an awful outfield last year and were pleasantly surprised with lagares when they had no where else to turn...this year, outfield appears to be a strength...I think it would be asking too much of lagares to be better than any of the other 3 OFs, offensively...who knows maybe lagares is the better choice over the youngs, but I have a feeling he will not have the opportunity to prove that...there just isn't enough time in ST to do so

@MFan28  yes it is! losing for 5 seasons in a row and mets still making excuses why they haven't brought in the necessary players to start thinking play offs and not just trying to get back to .500

Laffey signed a minor league deal with the Orioles. Shouldn't need to worry about seeing him. Though since he was DFA'd multiple times last year, guess we can't rule it out:)

@mets2014 If he's behind schedule by two weeks I'm sure Black or Farnsworth can handle the closing duties for two weeks. Not the end of the world.

Why what? Did the article confuse you?

@stemog @mets2014 I'm not worried...it just makes no sense to write an article about parnell which is clearly meant to alert us that there may be an issue and then end it by saying they looked at hanrahan as if he is a potential back up plan
