Last month, there was a lot of talk about Wally Backman or Bobby Valentine being the Mets next manager.
However, in listening to people connected to the team, I’m starting to think Backman’s chances of ending up with the top job are shrinking. In fact, though I could see him being tapped for a coaching gig, should the Mets pass him over as manager, I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave for another organization. He wants to be a big-league manager, and I’m not sure he will stick around waiting for a job just filled, even though there are likely going to be vacancies in other levels within the Mets farm system.
Speaking of Valentine, to read why Joe Janish doesn’t thinks he will not be the next manager, check out his post on Mets Today.
