Bartolo Colon struggled for first time in weeks

Bartolo Colon lost for the first time in eight starts when he gave up five runs in six innings against the Pirates on Sunday.

“I just think because I’ve already gone against them once, they probably prepared and knew what I was coming with,” Colon said. “I try not to look too much into it.”

Colon tossed seven shutout innings against the Pirates on May 28.

“Obviously when you put those kinds of swings on it, he was getting balls in the middle of the plate,” Terry Collins said after the game. “He hasn’t been hit that hard in a long time.”

Colon entered the game 6-0 with a 2.37 ERA during his previous eight games.

In my opinion signing Colon was a mistake, with all of the young pitching we keep hearing about why sign him and not put faith in that pitching ? Instead the $'s should have been used for a hitter at a position of need. Colon and CY $'s set this franchise back. I just hope they move him before he get's injured especially at his advanced age

It happens. If the Mess could hit with RISP once in a while giving up 4-5 runs now and then wouldn't be an issue.

For crying out loud, isn't this THE reason you got him, Sandy?  BECAUSE he knows how to make adjustments -- at-bat to at-bat, inning-to-inning, game-to-game?

If Colon doesn't know how to make sure a team he's seeing for the second time doesn't have him figured out, we are so DONE.  Wheeler and deGrom can't do that . . . yet . . . but they are young.  Colon has no such excuse.

OK, tis what really ticks me about this team :} Back in 2006 my Wife and Daughter would watch the games with me, we would cheer and yell at the TV and made the 4 hour trek from Vermont to Big Shea 3 or 4 times, it was GREAT!!! But, Beltran watched strike three and then Glavine had a meltdown and in 2008 the team fell apart, now, they won't watch a game with me :{ They gave up and don't have anymore interest in it :{ It was so much fun when we all watched and experienced the METS as a family, we had faith and hope, we knew they could win every game. I WANT THAT BACK!! Is that asking to much, am I that far gone? I want this team to compete and get my family interested again, please!!!!! I feel like a drug addict, sneaking downstairs to watch a METS game :} I want to watch with pride and family again, LETS GO METS!!!!! I hope 2015 turns things around.

Hmmmm....  Curious explanation from Colon. A bit alarming to think that the Pirates hit him simply because they had seen him a month ago.

Terry's explanation seems more likely - that he was catching too much of the plate. But if that's the case, you'd think Colon would have been aware of it himself (even if he doesn't like to do a lot of analyzing). Curious.

Mets can't hit.  It's depressing.  Might as well.  They aren't winning anything this season.

One of those games where you hope the bats can get you out of trouble.

Mets would love to trade him and save about 15mm over the next two years.

Outings like the one Colon had yesterday happen to all pitchers. He still gave the team a chance to win. The Mets went what, 2 for 15 with runners in scoring position?

He needs to be traded sooner then later. Trade him while his value is somewhat high. Sandy better not blow this.

@brmets Actually, I believe he will be traded. Look for the Blue Jays, Mariners, Dodgers and perhaps even the Yankees making a run at Colon.

@tullydew They need his innings for the rest of this season. I could see a trade in the offseason, but with Gee still on the DL and Niese having his history of injury problems, ntm the continued absence of Harvey for the rest of the year, I would lean toward them not trading him at the deadline this season. Maybe if Gee comes back and looks great, but I'd still lean toward not moving him. And if Gee comes back and isn't instantly the pitcher he was at the start of the year, then I see no way they deal Colon this season.

@tullydew  We should be able to get a few decent prospects for him...especially a team in contention hurting for starting pitching.

@tullydew Why do you think he has any trade value?  No team with playoff aspirations would ever want to start Colon in a playoff game

The Yankees have one pitcher better then Colon.Same with Boston.Same with all ALeast.Atlanta needs pitching. And he won't haunt us he's 40.He almost won CY young last year. They can trade him anywhere.

Still need to trade him.Colon is 40.Pitching is in demand right now.Along with Murphy.

@Chris Lyons  w/GEE coming back it's a no brainer, we're not going anywhere might as well get some prospects and allow our young pitching to continue their development at this level.

They are losing w/ him, they can lose w/o him. This team is going nowhere this year. Let the kids play and get a prospect for Colon.
