Andrew Brown 1 (AP)

Andrew Brown up, Buddy Carlyle DFA

Triple-A OF Andrew Brown has been promoted and added to the 25-man roster, while reliever Buddy Carlyle has been designated for assignment.

The transaction returns the Mets to having five men on the bench and seven pitchers in the bullpen, three of which are left-handed relievers.

Carlyle allowed one hit and one walk and struck out three during Wednesday’s loss at Wrigley Field. It was his second appearance since being promoted last weekend.

Brown is hitting .359 with 13 home runs and 31 RBI in 142 at-bats in Triple-A this season.

He started the season with the Mets, but hit just .185 with a home run and five RBI in the 27 at-bats before being demoted in late April.

Mets will probably re-sign Carlyle. If somebody picks him up-who cares? He wouldn't be here when German returns anyway.

So a good pitcher gets sent away while a less than good hitter gets brought back up?  This team is great at making inconsequential moves!  The problem is that CY is terrible and couldn't hit a beach ball.  Somehow the 41yr old Abreau is better than the 7 million $ man, that is not a good sign!

Well, I know Rice is LH but I would have dropped him instead.

This shows you how upside down this organization really is. I know Eveland is a LH! But so,what. Carlyle pitched well enough to stick around longer. This organization no longer surprises me with any moves it makes. Typically, it's been the wrong one. I love the team and always will, but from Collins on up, there's nothing but BS. Alderson is a Selig con artist. As for the Wilpons, they are a complete joke. Collins would make a great marriage counselor with his huggy, feely, ego soothing approach. Whatever happened to real baseball? Venting accomplished for the next 15 minutes.

So they call up another unproductive hitter, this cycle is terrible. Next will be Satin back, then Kirk, then they'll give Lutz a shot, and around and around they go. Bottom line, they have no legit offensive players, aside from David, Murph, Juan, and Granderson (who's name I type with caution). It's pretty sad when you have to play Abreau in a OF spot, because he's your best hitter at the moment. It's sad when I look forward to the draft as much as I do, because it's the closest they'll come to signing a big name FA. When you're a small market team, lets face it, thats what they are now, you need to spend your funds wisely, and Alderson has failed in that regard. He constantly bargain shops for washed up vets, and then spends the limited funds the team does have on, Frank Francisco, Chris Young, Bartolo (who is doing decent, but we could get by with one of our starters in AAA which is supposed to be their strength, and not spend $20 million on), Shawn Marcum, Jon Rauch, Brandon Lyon. He's failed as a GM.

Why would they choose to DFA Carlyle who as actually pitched well since he's been here? Why not Eveland? The only reason I can come up with is because he's LH but is having 3 LHP who aren't very good in the BP really going to help this team? They both made 2 appearances and Carlyle had a 0.00ERA and 1.15WHIP and Eveland 9.00ERA and 3.00WHIP and they get rid of Carlyle. Hell I'd have even dumped RIce and his 5.27ERA and 1.90WHIP over Carlyle

Scott rice needs to go and bring up Dan grabowski

Too bad for Buddy Carlyle, who pitched very well Saturday, but I actually see some logic in this move. Perhaps the Mets are auditioning Eveland to see if he can get the job done in anticipation of demoting/releasing Scott Rice next. Personally, I think the clock has struck midnight on Rice.

I really like Brown and would love to see him have success at the MLB level and produce for the Mets or have a chance with another big league club, he is 29, and a year younger than CYoung, good luck Andrew!

Like that keep Carlyle up send Eveland down instead. Need room also for Darin Gorski to make a Debut on the starting roster. Like Dice K in 2 or 3 innings relief every other night as needed. Like to see Matt Clark come up from Binghamton to replace Chris Young to give Duda some much needed rest especially after extra innings games. By the way Matt Cerrone who is the other person in the trade being sent our way? Abreu, Campbell, Grandy at this point and time in outfield.

BTW we should hear about the player to be named in Ike Davis trade soon right

Strange I thought Caryle pitched well, why not Eveland

But happy to see Andrew Brown back

Agree with not understanding the Carlyle move. As for Brown, maybe his last chance (if he does get a chance before Young or Lagares comes back). He always tears up Triple-A, but if he can't afford to fail with the Mets again.

If the Mets Ownership and GM had any balls they would try to make a big trade for a big bat to not only help them this year but for the future.  As bad as they've played their only 3.5 games out.  I'd like to see a real commitment to winning.  Not Chris Young batting 5th.  Get a real number 4 hitter and run producer and slide Granderson down in the order.  They did it in '98 when they got Piazza and it paid dividends.  It may be risky but at some point they have to get a bat.

Andrew Brown should solve all the Mets problems of hitting with RISP.

Germen should be back soon, so one of the lefties will be gone shortly.

Def should have sent down Eveland. How many one batter relievers do we need?

Not Eveland? At least Carlyle looked like he could get people out....

Seemed to me that he pitched well enough to just get sent back down for help later on in the year if needed.  DFAing him seems harsh.

@Brian Webster Sometimes I think the significance of having lefties pitch against left-handed batters and righties to right-handed batters is over-thought and over-used. I'd rather a good pitcher on the mound than a lousy one pitching with a supposed delivery advantage.

Brian Webster

If they needed more time as you say to determine which of Rice and Eveland is worse than the other which is dumb than I'd even have preferred they sent Edgin down to AAA for 10 days. At least then they could've called him right back once they determined a winner or in this case a lesser loser. However I'm pretty sure they're going to lose Carlyle to another team now.

Yeah I thought they did that last night when Eveland was the 1st RP brought in for Dice K and he promptly gave up the lead

@semperfi   Brown was raking at AAA. But, you all know TC's mode of operation: bench brown until brown gets blue in the face from inactivity (usally about 5 games riding the bench) and then he''ll eventually start Brown in a game.

@11gilkey  Not sure if they have the balls, but they clearly don't have the money.  Very sad . . .

@11gilkey  The Mets have actually hit BETTER with RISP than they have otherwise.  Their problem isn't hitting with RISP, it is HITTING.

That being said, Brown has been by far the best hitter in his league.  He deserves another shot.

That's the way this organization do things you perform well enough you get reward buy getting demoted

Wrong side of 30? Contrary to popular belief by the puppies on this blog, 30 + is not old for anything, to include baseball. If you're in shape, you're in shape, period. It's an individual thing, how well you keep yourself, etc. I'm OLD but can still make it to the bathroom in under 5 minutes, so chill on the age thing.

@Vincent Santiago @Brian Webster that doesnt change the fact that he is pitching better than the guys they kept in the bullpen at the moment.  why not keep the guy who is pitching well (regardless of how many appearances) and send down one of the guys who has been pitching like feces?

Yea the guy my bad sorry jejeje thanks for the correction bro

@Brian Webster Just to be clear, I don't have high hopes for Eveland at all. Chances are he won't be any better. But except against the Phillies' lefties, Rice has been just awful.

Brian Webster

@dukewillie @semperfi  Well he should definitely start tonight with a LHP on the mound. But I agree he better have a good game tonight or it's back to the bench.

Mo Pena

Agree with you Steven no team is trading a big bat

@Mo Pena DFA is not demoted.  DFA is removing from the 40 man roster, and they could outright him to AAA, but he has to clear waivers first.  Since the 40 is at 39, it doesn't make sense.

@Mo Pena  Hell I might even prefer the imaginary Dan Grabowski to Scott Rice right now LOL

I agree I'd even have preferred getting rid of Rice to Carlyle as well.
