Andrew Brown and Chris Young did well Thursday

Mets OF Andrew Brown, who was promoted from Triple-A earlier in the day, hit clean-up during Thursday’s game.

He responded by hitting a game-tying, two-run home run in the seventh inning, though the Mets eventually lost the game.

“We’ve put him in the middle there to see if he can do some damage,” Terry Collins said after the game.

Brown had been hitting .358 with 13 HR and 12 doubles with Triple-A Las Vegas after being demoted in late April.

Meanwhile, Chris Young, who entered Thursday’s game batting .194, hit in the lead-off spot.

He responded by getting a hit, two walks and an RBI in three at bats.

Matthew Cerrone, Lead Writer

I still can’t believe Young’s name was entered in ink. However, he hit, so, I’ll zip it… for now. Terry Collins is notorious for ‘going with the hot hand,’ so I assume Young will back in the leadoff spot Friday in San Francisco. And, I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown stays in there as well, so long as he keeps driving the ball the way that he is. Fact is, the Mets struggle to score with what I probably think is a more balanced lineup. So, weird or not, if the lineup scores for Terry, so be it…

12:50 pm: The more I think about this, ideally, the outfield should be Matt den Dekker, Curtis Granderson and Brown against left-handed pitching and Bobby Abreu against right-handed pitching. I can’t believe I’m saying that, but it seems to make the most sense…

Chris Young's hit should have been caught. Terrible bloop hit.

Young's hit was a pop-up that fell in and he decided not to dive (guess he's one of those players who doesn't like to get his uniform dirty) on that one ball that hit off his glove for a hit.  Saying he did well - NO.

You guys need a course in psychology.....here are the facts: Owners only care for making a profit; management only care about being in the know on a sports team; players only care about their paychecks.

Have you noticed that the players have no concern on winning or losing with the smiles on their faces!

Have you noticed that management is really not concerned about how a team wins or loses? And if they did something would be done about it.

Isn't it strange that owners are hiding behind Sandy Alderson's back.

Thank  goodness they are playing at 10:30......I go to bed at 11:30 could not watch another game.....its painful.

Andrew Brown doesnt choke! I recall him hitting a bunch of much needed HRs last year. You sir need to get your hate str8.

Youngs only hit was a bleeder so it wasnt very inspiring but it will give Sandy an excuse to keep making Terry run him out there. I was looking at Youngs career stats in terms of overall runs contributed to his teams offense and he is well below the average player for his career. Guys like Don Hahn and Bruce Boisclair contributed more!

You can't believe it since there is so poor options available. Lagares would make the trio sound much more respectable. Be even better if the third OF wasn't really a 4th or 5th or someone 40 years old. There are various decent players to complete the OF possible.

Trade Wright and Darnaud. Release Chris Young. Fire Clueless Collins. Hire Wally Backman......and whatever the organization's so-called  'hitting philosophy' is..... do the exact opposite.

Here is what Terry Collins is notorious for, Matty Boy:

Bloop single for a Handsomely Paid Vet = RAGING EFFING HOT HAND

Scalding line drive out by a Young Player / 2 for 5 game = Bench for a week

we all put a lot of hours to this team and i may measure success in different ways.

we all love baseball and love this team and want to desperately see them win

but in the face of adversity -- 5 losing seasons, going on 6 .. i just see nothing but soft approaches and passive criticism -- no fire.. no urgency from this team-- no embarrassment at the product they put out there -- maybe there's not much that can be done-- maybe there is more than the apologists will allow .. maybe they need to flip a freakn table when the team loses 3 straight to the worst team in the NL ....

but in all likelihood they'll be on the losing end of 6 straight when they come out of SF ..

what say you then..

Flipping Bizarro world with this team, Cerrone and most of the posters on this site

gets jammed on a horrible swing and it falls in for hit-- bravo. his poor defense play too, notwithstanding ...

and notoriously goes with the hot hand?? how about is notoriously inconsistent on that issue...

I just read an entry from this blog that was posted on Nov. 23. Every single METSBLOG contributor praised this move. HA!

The day the Mets signed CY, everyone on this blog ripped Sandy apart. Literally everyone went crazy. I don't even remember one positive comment lol. I guess now would be one of those "I told you so" moments.

What did chris young do get lucky blooper that dunked Into center talk about praising mediocrity. . Joke

Yesterday when the Mets lineup was posted, everyone said it was an awful lineup full of .200 hitters and some AAAA players. The scary thing is as bad as that lineup was offensively it had to be the worse defensive lineup in the Majors this year.

Father Dooley
Father Dooley

It is a sin, a sin, that Chris Young will make over 7 million dollars this year to stink at what he does, while so many people struggle to get by and others go hungry....A Sin!!!

I can't even think of the last Met to wake up? Delgado perhaps?

Matt, Young did not do well... he played horrendous defense and had a lucky bloop single!  This guy deserves to be released a month ago.

Jerry Colfer

I agree with Matt. den Dekker, Grandy and Brown/Abreau are the only options that make sense

hashburry

Young had a bloop single, nothing more.  He is the poster child for Alderson's inability to put impact players on the field.

CY couldn't make a simple catch that started the rally i am sick of Terrt and idiots concerned about Flores at SS when CY EY and Duda are well below average at their position. Not to mention Wright and Murphy who seem to botch plays that always lead to a loss.

Jerry Colfer
Jerry Colfer

Really??? It is not like CY rifled one in the alley. It was an oppo bloop. That hardly qualifies as a lukewarm hand.

Folks, for the moment the Mets ownership can't afford (for the most part) anything but bottom level talent. The team for the most part plays poor baseball. Fortunately they have some young pitchers and mid level pitchers (see Gee, Niese) that are performing well which keeps them from total embarrassment.

But they can't hit, their fundamentals are general poor and their fielding is mediocre at best. You know what that gets you? A fourth to fifth place team…that's what we got.

Kyle Fischer
Kyle Fischer

This post is an example of the general change I've seen on this blog of taking the side of the players / management.  Let's give Sandy Alderson the benefit of the doubt when he makes a comment saying the fans need to come to more games.  Let's give Chris Young a pat on the back for getting a single hit...... If you didn't know any better, you'd think we were reading a Pittsburgh Pirates blog or something, where everyone and everything is wonderful.  This is New York.  We're better than that

Father Dooley
Father Dooley

Seriously Matt, seriously??? He had one freaking hit yesterday!!!!!

Rob Martin

Who cares?? These guys choke 99% of time, release them both. The Mets hold onto these bums thinking they'll wake up! Sometimes they never do wake up.

Aaron Robert Gusthov

Young is a liability in the field, even if he can get his average up to Sandy's dream of .220.  He's done.  den Dekker needs to be in CF until Lagares gets back.

hankypanky

If TC listened to commentary in Metsblog, we would have Valdespin in the center of the line-up.

Kyle Fischer

How can you zip it?  The guy dropped a fly ball that cost us three runs.  Put den Dekker in and get the guy out of there.  He had one single it.  Let's not get carried away....

borsh13

Please stop with Cruz he took a cheap one year deal in a hitters park to get a big contract next year he would only have come here if he got a ridiculous contract which everyone would have complained about

Was just about to post the same thing ... played a poor CF also ...

@Father Dooley really Father YOU would consider that a sin?  What would you consider diddling kids - a hobby?

Joe Paulson
Joe Paulson

@bsp123 Yes.  Brown nearly made an out that in the long run would have saved three runs.  Brown plays decent defense and has shown as much as Young has in the hitting department the little chance he had to play.

Father Dooley
Father Dooley

@bsp123 Could not have said this better.  Chris Young does not know how to play baseball.....PERIOD.

Steven Molello
Steven Molello

@Jerry Colfer What TC means is in the players lounge CY burnt his hand on a sterno under the pasta tray on the buffet line. Thus he went with the hot hand

Kyle Fischer
Kyle Fischer

@Victor Triguero Well, Tejada was the "hot hand" because he hit a couple balls hard that were caught, so on this team, an actual hit means someone is on fire

Kyle Fischer
Kyle Fischer

@Father Dooley Seriously... to say that "he hit" is a bit of an overstatement here.  The guy dropped a fly ball that had a huge impact on the game and has been a huge bust.

Father Dooley

@hankypanky Right, and d'Arnaud, Flores, and Niewenhuis would be heading to the hall of fame!!!!!

Then I am forced to take my comment back...funny!
