Alfredo Aceves signs with Orioles, Mets once had interest

Free-agent reliever Alfredo Aceves has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Orioles (Dierkes, Jan. 15).

It was once a “good possibility” that Aceves signed with the Mets (Olney, Nov. 14), who had shown early interest in the relief pitcher (Cafardo, Nov. 13).

Aceves, 30, posted a 4.86 ERA and 1.730 WHIP in 11 games (six starts) with Boston last season. He was up and down between Triple-A and the majors during the year, before being released in mid-July.

Aceves had a strange season in Boston. He made only 11 appearances and there was some controversy as to whether or not he was actually injured before he was released. He was sent to Triple-A Pawtucket, but did not return to the big leagues. Prior to 2012, he had turned into one of the better relief pitchers in the game with a hard fastball and cutter and an effective change-up. He’s mostly a flyball pitcher, but has done a good job keeping the ball in the ballpark over the course of his career. He could have been a good low-risk addition.

stop crying!  Aceves signed a minor league deal.   1. maybe he liked going to baltimore better then other teams. Its not like they couldnt afford a minor league deal, every team can afford that. Maybe they weren't that interested. This blog throws   alot of stuff out there ,some true some not.  the complainers out here please root for a different team!! So negative. they would even find fault if their team was the cards or bosox

I said it before and i will say it again.  They needed to sign the cuban 1b Abreu.  A lot of you on here said he was unproven blah blah blah.  The white sox are already gushing about the guy.  They got a bargain and here we are at the altar once again...write about that.  emm emm oh

It's laughable the amount of times "good low risk addition" is used here.

Over the past 20 minutes there have been 3 new threads with only 2 posts.  Perhaps more care, less rechurning the Ike and Drew threads every day, and   a good bit of attention to detail would help.  Just trying to help.

A 1.73 WHIP and released mid season 2013. Just what we needed. Geesh!

Wow is right! Now here is a topic worth discussing. Think about how this is going to effect the price of top of the line FA pitchers.

@sylow59 The new comment literally eviscerated the community on this site in one fell swoop.

They obviously did not care one iota about our experience with this portion of the site....which is ironic.....considering this is a blog and all.

@sylow59 The new comment system, which is horrible, doesn't help.

@BringBackDaveTelghe@sylow59  I would argue that the switch was simply the catalyst.

For months/years, commenters had become increasingly disappointed/frustrated with the content and the user experience here. Instead of making an effort to listen to and address the feedback, management here chose to dismiss it, and just strut around the barnyard.

The chickens have come home to roost.
