Sandy Alderson said that his 90 win proclamation isn’t so much a goal, but an expectation.
“It wasn’t a guarantee. It wasn’t a prediction. It was a challenge,” Alderson said (Rubin, March 31). “It’s important for us to change the conversation. The 90 wins is about setting a challenge.”
Alderson went on to say that “it’s time” for the Mets to get better and he wanted to “set a lofty goal and figure out how to achieve it.” (Burkhardt, March 31).
As for how that challenge made it into the media, the general manager said he wasn’t “thrilled when private conversations become public.”
“Happens all too frequently with the Mets,” Alderson said (Vorkunov, March 31).
