AL teams could have interest in Carlos Beltran

According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, American League teams in search of an OF-DH, like the Rangers and White Sox, could have interest in Carlos Beltran.

However, he adds, “To trade Beltran, the Mets would need to assume a significant portion of his $18.5 million salary for 2011.”

Last Friday on the MLB Network’s Hot Stove show, host Harold Reynolds suggested the Mets send Beltran to the Dodgers for Jonathan Broxton.

Broxton had a 1.07 WHIP, 19 saves and a 2.11 ERA during the first half of last season, then blew 5 saves with a .207 WHIP and a 7.13 ERA in 25 appearances in the second half.  He will earn $7 million next season, after which he can be a free agent.

In talking to people who know him, I hear Beltran is looking to sign a multi-year deal next off season, and will gladly accept a trade to another team, especially if it’s to a hitter’s park where he can also play center field.

In a report for the Boston Globe, Nick Cafardo lists Beltran among dozens of players who will be talked about in trades this off season, like Prince Fielder, Gordon Beckham, Aaron Hill, Jacoby Ellsbury and Daisuke Matsuzaka.
