Matthew Cerrone, MetsBlog.com:
Rivera’s retirement is bittersweet. Sweet, because I hate seeing him dominate and losing to him. Bitter, because I respect his awesomeness and content he’s the greatest player of my lifetime, mostly because he totally broke the mold for his position in a way I’ve never seen (and probably will never see again). I mean, in many ways, he created a myth that teams have been trying to recreate for years and yet it’s so difficult to get right over a sustained period of time. That said, I have no problem seeing his exit the playing field because it’s one less obstacle.
