hey sandy...will you just finally admit you made an idiotic mistake  and GET RID OF CHRIS YOUNG....what the heck is he doing in the lineup??...if you call yourself a general manager YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER ...he already dragged the lineup down for a 100 games....ENOUGH ALREADY!....get niewenhuis back up here and put him in left field...he's a good fielder and he's not gonna hit .190 like this loser young.....SMARTEN UP!

5 extra base hits and 2 runs?   Same ol' Mets.

We're now 7 games from the wildcard, and 7 games from the worst record in baseball.

We need to trade for hitting, and pay what it costs once we get it, or we'll be stuck in limbo for another few years, still hoping that all our prospects someday become all-stars to bail us out.

Considering how this trip started...a win tomorrow to gain a split vs. a division leader, after winning an interleague series vs. a good Seattle team, would make the road trip a mild success.

This team needs to figure out in the next four days what they are doing because if Thursday passes and they don't make any moves at all I hope they are content with attendance in the teens for the rest of the year. They will be lucky people even watch on tv if these horrible lineups are still being run out there. The way Herrera is tearing up the minors, Murphys days have got to be numbered whether it's next year or this year

Is Milwaukee a "major market"?

Because they have a major market lineup in relation to the Mets!

How come Matthew Bowman gets no love for coming up? He has a 1.84 ERA in AAA and is only 23. Could be a trade piece worth looking into.

Does anyone here know how to play this game?

Ex-Met Nick Evans just hit a 3 run HR vs. the Phillies in extras.

Nick Evans lives.

I was listening to the Stop Smoking commercial on SNY while blogging and thought that the guy gasping for air was a Mets fan interview!

We can only hope for a split tomorrow

Niese was Neise again! Sailing along and all of a sudden Bang, always in the 5th or 6th. That's one of the reasons I gotta trade him. I don't care that he's a LHP.  I can get a RHP pitcher to implode suddeny as well.

@Mark Kunzmann That's Alderson dictating who shall play and who shall sit.  Bad decisions all season.  SA and TC must go in order to have a winning season.

@Doubleday Bull****. Chris Young hit today but he used up his month worth of hits today.

@melmet Win 90 games?  HA HA.  The Mutts will lose 90 under SA and TC.

Haha going to take much more than that for Stanton.

The games that you don't win at the beginning of the season during the Farnsworth/Valverde experiments puts added pressure to come out of these roadtrips at 7 and 3 or better.

I agree a split over this series is acceptable...but needed to go 2 and 1 versus SD.

As you can see from all of our Vegas all-stars, it is another universe to perform at the major league level.

Murph has some shortcomings, but he is a professional hitter!

@Tyler Bacon He made his 3rd start at AAA tonight.  He pitched well in Binhampton, but how much trade value do you think 15 AAA IPs garners?

@Tormented Mets Fan Niese pitches like a tubby b*tch.  Can't wait until Matz comes up so we can finally catapult his *ss out of NYC.  Won't miss him.

C.K. Dexter Haven

@Tormented Mets Fan I don't want Niese pissed, i want him to be efficient on the mound and to stop throwing gasoline on innings that are already small fires.

@Tormented Mets Fan  Don't expect any kind of a juicy response by Collins.  "Jon's a competitor".  "I don't want any of my pitchers to ever want to come out of a game".  "If Jon continues to pitch like he did last night, he'll win a lot of games".  etc.

Same boring stuff that you'd expect any manager to say.

@eric88 Pelfrey 2.0 if Mets could deal him they should, let Gee take over his spot once Harvey is back and Noah is up

Born2Fish74

@John Schod At the very beginning of the year i'd say 95+% people knew they werent making the playoff's this year regardless if they had Farns/Valverde or Mo Rivera closing.  No pressure to win this year, IMO that starts next year

Billy Suede

@John Schod that would apply...if herrera was even in triple a yet.  he's in binghamton.

Born2Fish74
Born2Fish74

@John Schod Hitting isn't the whole game, fielding and base running are also part and those are 2 things he is not very professional in.  Money, age and who is in the minors also factor in as well as. People who are for keeping Murphy keep mentioning his hitting but leave these parts out besides the fact that they can turn around and either trade for a big bat which will more then make of for the loss of Murphy's hitting or get one in free agency when Colon, Cy and Murphy's $ are off the books

Dave D'Agnese
Dave D'Agnese

If Herrera keeps hitting no way they keep him down and pay murphy 10 million per. Unless in a year and a half they trade Wright and move murphy to third otherwise murphy won't be here much longer

Tyler Bacon

I mean he would have to be apart of a bigger package but it's still impressive either way!

@ponzies86 @eric88 Niese, Noah and Plawecki for Tulowitzki. That's the trade to make. We're in desperate need for a big bat and have plenty of pitching to trade. Rotation next year would be Harvey-Wheeler-deGrom-Gee-Colon. An outstanding rotation.

John Schod
John Schod

Yet getting off to a good start takes some of the pressure off as the season goes on. If 2014 is a throw away year, then let's play the young guys.

As you can see, the bullpen has been much, much better with the newbies!

Move CY, Colon, Abreu (wish we had the other one!), Dice-k....bring on Vegas!

John Schod
John Schod

Murph's fielding is average but admirable for a guy who is playing out of position for the sake of the team. How would Mark Texeira do playing 2nd base?

Regarding purchasing talent when money comes off the books....haha!

Our net $50m payroll says it all!

John Schod
John Schod

If you are looking to keep your payroll at a shameful level (or go lower) or don't really care about building a winner over the next several years (which is possible), then continue to move your proven talent, like Reyes to Tejada, Pagan to nobody, etc.

Billy Suede
Billy Suede

@mustang66 not an excuse. niese has an issue when dealing with adversity. it's been his achilles' heel his entire career to date. an ace is able to buckle down and have a short memory in an effort to pick up his teammates. allowing things to spiral is on niese, not on chris young.

realityck
realityck

@metsbb76 @ponzies86 @eric88 Why in the world would you include Noah for him? Am i not correct he is hurt yet again? That's to much good young talent to trade for someone who gets hurt as much as he does. If you could guarantee that he will be on the field, and hitting, then yes maybe

Born2Fish74
Born2Fish74

@John Schod You talk of Vegas as if everyone who has come though there has been terrible, Less you forget there was a time Harvey and Wheeler pitched there before coming up??? Yes there have been some failures every team has them but more quality is on the way... ie Thor and Herrera who's killing it in AA and will be up next year, they have to as they have to protect him on the 40 man

Born2Fish74
Born2Fish74

@John Schod You said it yourself he is out of position so why pay him more money as he get's older and his range will get even worse???

You left out responding to the trade part which can be done regardless if u wana bash the money end which will be even less when as I said Colon Cy and Muphy are off leaving them flexibility to purchase a free agent.

While i agree the payroll is too low for an NY team  money doesn't +WS just look t that those Yankmees now.

Dave D'Agnese

I'm not looking to do it. But I'm sure they are.

metsbb76
metsbb76

@realityck @metsbb76 @ponzies86 @eric88 Because just Niese and Plawecki won't get it done. They're gonna want a top young pitching prospect for a mega superstar like Tulo as well. I'm willing to trade Noah due to the development of deGrom. We'd still have 3 young outstanding pitchers for the future with Harvey-Wheeler-deGrom. We can afford to trade Noah to get the bat that this team desperately needs.

Josh Eppard

Did Harvey pitch in Vegas? I believe the Mets AAA team was in Buffalo when Harv was in AAA

John Schod
John Schod

So why was he added to the all-star team at 2nd base and the announcers gushed that he was a professional hitter.

I have said in the past that the 2013 Red Sox and Cards were 25 Daniel Murphys.

The Yankees have made several missteps. Nonetheless, as an almost 50 year Met loyalist, I envy their perpetual desire to field a championship team, regardless of the outcome!

I pass on tulo for that package

Billy Suede

@John Schod because every team in mlb must be represented. don't get it twisted. if that rule wasn't in effect, there would not be a mets rep in the mid-season classic.
