19-yr-old OF prospect Bradley Marquez may soon return to Mets?

The Mets selected OF Bradley Marquez with the 16th-round pick in 2011.

However, the team allowed him to also play college football at Texas Tech this fall, where he has five catches for 165 yards.

I’ve heard from two people in the last few days suggesting Marquez is considering giving up football at Texas Tech to pursue baseball full team with the Mets. He’s an interesting prospect, since insiders indicate he could quickly become of one of the team’s top outfield prospects (considering the state of the farm system). The word on Marquez is he’s super fast and very athletic, giving the organization hope he can man center field. However, he needs to improve at the plate. But, again, he’s fast and aggressive, and with a lot of raw talent – and, at 5′ 10″, maybe he’s realizing his future in the NFL will be more a difficult road than getting to Citi Field as an outfielder.

In just 30 at bats for Single-A Kingsport this past summer, the 19-year-old Marquez hit .267 with two extra base hits during his first professional season.
