The International League suspended Bisons’ manager Wally Backman three games for an argument with Syracuse manager Tony Beasley Friday.
Backman was angry because Syracuse was stealing signs. “Don’t insult my intelligence,” Backman said. “Tonight, I had to say something. … Here we have some integrity and play fair.”
This is Backman. He knows the game. He’s passionate, and his players love playing for him. All the same, this fire and temper makes it fair to wonder how he would handle the daily, New York City microscope.
Backman talked about his ejection here.
As much as this is baseball code, aren’t there ways of handling his on-field? Or creating signs that can’t be stolen?
