Dec. 5: The latest on Robinson Cano

In early November, the Mets reportedly met with the agents for free-agent 2B Robinson Cano, who is said to be seeking at least a nine-year deal.

The Mets simply used the opportunity to get to know Jay Z’s new talent agency, according to people familiar with the meeting (Rubin). The Mets told Cano’s agents, before agreeing to meet, that chances of a deal were slim (Rosenthal).


Dec. 5: The Yankees are growing pessimistic they will retain Cano (Matthews), who is looking for a 10-year contract (Marchand).

Dec. 5: There’s a good chance Cano goes to the Mariners (Heyman), who will soon offer him a nine-year, $225 million contract (Heyman).

Dec. 5: Cano’s representatives met with the Mariners on Tuesday (Kernan).
