Ike Davis and Lucas Duda

Ike Davis Rumors: Pirates could still try and trade for Davis

The Prates could look to trade for Mets 1B Ike Davis, Rangers 1B Mitch Mooreland or Blue Jays 1B Adam Lind, instead of signing free-agent 1B Kendry Morales (Cafardo, Feb. 9).

Despite continued attempts to trade Davis this winter, Sandy Alderson said last month he expects Davis and Lucas Duda to compete for the starting first base job in camp (SNY, Jan. 30).

In the event the Mets don’t want Davis or Lucas Duda on the Opening Day roster, both players can still be sent to Triple-A to start 2014 since they each have an option and would not need to pass through waivers (Rubin, Jan. 21).

If Duda shows much competing with Davis, it'll be surprising because I doubt Duda wants to take first base directly from Davis. Flores would probably do the best and still not get to play.

I'm sure if any team is interested in Ike Davis, they will wait and see what he does during spring training. I hope Ike is the comeback player of the year and he can put forth key hits for the Mets. . Geez...Did I just say that?

If the pirates give in to the mets demands, I say trade him...perhaps that would cause other moves to be made...you could continue the duda vs ike debate, but the bottom line is if they could fix other areas while settling the LH 1B situation at the same time I say why not

I'm having deja vu all over again.

All joking aside, I think the mets need to just give ike the job and hope he can return to the player we all thought he was going to be back in 2011 (before that darned injury destroyed what was shaping up as a real nice season). With our luck we'd trade him for a bag of balls and he'd wind up winning Comeback Player of the Year. We aren't winning anything of significance this year anyway.....give him one more shot. if he fails miserably, then we non-tender him next year and move on. His trade value is rock bottom right now anyway.

"But I expect the Mets will want to try and trade the loser and get whatever they can for him."  ..........pun intended?

I'm glad we kept Ike. I hate ti give up on that home run power yet. I'd like to see him have one more year.

For those my rejiggers about Mets next year prediction , just think about a force attacking power of

Granderson , Murphy, Wright, Young, Ike, Darnaud, ...Plus i expect an improvement offensively from Lagares.

With the pitching power we have, definitely the competition are really scared off. We going to the off season no doubt.

I would like that I. Davis will stay with the team for next year ( I mean this year ) For the contrary I don't like the idea of overpaying to adquire Drew. He is not that superior to Tejada. However the name Morales is atractive.

But still Mets can win Many games with the squad they are about to present. So we'll see all in playoff.

Duda up with Ike on deck..where do we sign

Looks like a Mets home game going by attendance.

rod fuller-i believe that either duda or davis will thrive in 2014. not sure where they will go, but i predict they will. years ago there was a player called bob cerv who played for the yankees.  never could make it, a power hitter like davis and duda. the yankees traded cerv to the athletics, he hit 300, 30 home runs and o ver 100  look lt up.

valley fever. if its gone Ike will transform a team, be it the Mets or other. If injury free Ike is a baseball talent. Take his stats without the ankle and fever and he is beast. Something has to be wrong when his defensive skills slide back words. Bat maybe, glove...doesn't go away at his age. Roberto Alomar anyone ?

Mets should pkg davis, and / or Duda with a prospect for a young SS. Then go sign Kendrys Morales to play 1B. It changes the entire lineup putting a legit switch hitter in the 4 or 5 hole. They can get him for victorino money and he'd be a steal. Take a page out of 2013 Sawx!

Of all the scenarios one that will definitely not happen is either Ike or duda going to AAA...no way alderson pays a minor leaguer those salaries

I'm no expert on arbitration, but since they reached a settlement prior to going through with arbitration; wouldn't their salaries be guaranteed?  I'm still trying to sort out the Bonifacio options too; and would appreciate any help if anyone is clear on the rules.   If I understand correctly; if another team claims Bonifacio, they can either pull him back (and pay him his full 3.5MM or trade him.  If he goes unclaimed; they're still on the hook for the 3.5 and he can go to their minors; or he can refuse the assignment and become a free agent and sign elsewhere (and I think the Royals would be on the hook for all but whatever his new team is paying him;

Can anyone clarify if I'm wrong?

Mooreland and Lind would be more desirable for teams looking for a first baseman, but Davis or Duda would come at a cheaper cost if the Mets stop trying to get a team to give too much for him. I don't really see the need for the Mets to have 2 left handed 1st basemen, so 1 eventually has to go. And no, Duda should NOT play outfield again.

How about we trade Davis and Duda and sign Morales??

If you had told the readers on this blog that the team would head north in 2104 with Ike and Ruben in starting roles everyone would think you were crazy. A rejuvenated Ike, even hitting .250 with power, would be a plus. Duda seems to be a perfectly likable young man but has shown very little during his time with the team. Satin had a decent couple of months and is a contact hitter on a team that strikes-out a great deal (even more with Granderson). Just too many question marks in the lineup. If Ruben, Ike and Lagares don't hit that's nearly half our batters (counting the pitcher's spot). Things may still change but this is shaping up to be a LONG year.

BringBackDaveTelghe

There's no harm in letting Ike get the bulk, Flores is the utility corner infielder, and Duda is the bench guy / spot player and if Ike struggled flip him in there. No real room / need for Satin.

@yankeehater he had his "one more shot" i have seen enough of him striking out, arguing with the umpire and sulk all the way back to the dug out!  enough with this guy already! He acts like he is some big super star thats owed something, prove you are one first!!

zoddie

Uhh, it would have cost the Mets an extra $35 million per year (and $200 million total) to get those two...and they both dont play first base.

@piazza4ada Valley Fever was the excuse in 2012.  For 2013, he was healthy.

zoddie
zoddie

No one is trading a young ss for Duda or Davis unless our prospect is really good. Even then, if we trade Duda or Davis and sign Morales we will have the same problem as we started with! Too many first basemen.

zoddie
zoddie

Duda has actually shown he can hit pretty well. Not at an all star level, but he's always hit righties throughout his career.

zoddie
zoddie

I just think Ike and Duda are too similar to both have on the roster. They both can only play 1b and PH. Itd be different if we had a DH. Even Flores, if he can only play the corners, would hardly see any time. Wright never sits and Satin will play vs LHPs

Frank Tangorra
Frank Tangorra

Duda is not a guy you can have come off the bench and hope for a big hr. Davis is the guy who has had a 30 hr season. I just don't think Ike can do it here. The pressure of NY has gotten to him.

yankeehater
yankeehater

@rubiconx0 @yankeehater my thing is this....we aren't winning this year; his trade stock is low as hell; he did hit 30 hrs in this league just 2 years ago; we aren't spending money to truly upgrade the position (kendrys morales wont be worth what we'd have to pay him....and he isn't putting us over the top regardless).

Ike is still young enough to hope for....and I just don't want to see us get basically nothing for him and then he turns into a perennial 30 hr guy. Yeah, its probably not going to happen, but its also not going to affect the 2014 season to let him make or break himself. We aren't one piece away from greatness.

@Frank Tangorra i don't think playing in NY has anything to do with it.

I don't' think ike is a very good  MLB player.
