The Mets plan to meet with the agents for free-agent relievers John Axford and Kevin Gregg (Duquette, Dec. 11).
Axford, 30, went a combined 7-7 with a 4.02 ERA in 75 relief appearances in 2013. He is reportedly negotiating with the Orioles (Morosi, Dec. 11) and Indians, who are interested in him as a closer (Heyman, Dec. 11).
Gregg, 35, went 2-6 with a 3.48 ERA in 62 relief appearances with the Cubs in 2013, allowing 53 hits and 32 walks in 62 innings.
