Ike Davis 12 (Baron)

Brewers and Rays still connected to Ike Davis

The Mets continue to talk with teams about 1B Ike Davis, who has reportedly drawn interest from the Rays, Astros, Orioles, Brewers and Rockies, among other teams.

The Brewers still hope to re-sign free-agent Corey Hart, and reports indicate they may get a deal done (Haudricourt, Dec. 10). However, if he doesn’t decide within the next day or so, they may push to acquire Davis before the end of the week, according to insiders (MartinoRubin, Dec. 10).

11:26 pm: The Brewers feel Hart is their best option, it’s just a matter of getting the money right in his deal (Haudricourt, Dec. 10).

11:22 pm: The Brewers love Hart, and are working to get a deal done (Heyman, Dec. 10).

In talks for Davis, the Mets asked the Brewers for young, controllable pitching, such as prospect Tyler Thornburg (Duquette, Dec. 10).

Meanwhile, while the Rays like Davis (Martino, Dec. 9), he may not be their first choice (Rubin, Dec. 10). They are also interested in Marlins 1B Logan Morrison (Heyman, Dec. 9) and Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland (Martino, Nov. 26). Nevertheless, the Mets and Rays continued talking Tuesday (Puma, Dec. 10).

It was reported last month that Tampa will consider swapping Davis for OF Matt Joyce (Topkin, Nov. 27).

There have been reports connecting the Mets and Davis to the Orioles and Pirates, but there does not seem to be significant interest from either side (ShermanPumaMartino, Dec. 9).

I worry that if they trade ike he will break out and become the player he should be in a lineup that has protection. Also don't want matt Joyce for him to little in return for ike.

If i have to trade Ike i rather him go to Tampa then to Milwaukee. I believe he will come back to somewhat he was in 2012 if he plays in Tampa for Joe Maddon.  I would hate to face Ike 6 times a year  vs maybe once for 3 games every so many years in Tampa. Plus i think Tampa's farm is alot better then the Brewers what we may get back in return.

i do not believe Mat Joyce is better then Ike but he is certainly better then Duda.

Only 6 2B finished with a higher fWAR than Murphy last season.  He is 28 years old and about to enter his prime years.  He should improve slightly on the defensive side next season, since he has only played 2B for 2.5 seasons, and he should get some pitches to hit next season if Wright can stay healthy for a full season.  I would expect .300/.340/.435 for a .775 OPS with 50 2Bs  15  HRs  5  3Bs  75  RBIs  20  SBs with slightly better defense from Murphy next season, which would probably put him in the All-Star game.  Only Chase Utley & Matt Carpenter were better at the position in the NL last season than Murphy, and Utley will turn 35 this season, and hits in a little league field.  Don't be surprised if Murphy is the best 2B in the NL next season.  Its foolish to entertain the idea of trading him.

I loved reading at the top of the page what Heyman tweeted. Then in the middle of the page read the same tweet spoken about as gospel. Only to keep reading until someone basically hijacked the tweet as if it was some inside information directed only at them. I gave up after that comfortable in the knowledge that the trade referred to in the tweet has no chance of happening

If Loney can be signed for three years at $36, no draft pick, I really do not care about being obessed about trading Duda and Ike.

I get Loney and just wait...

Great so were going to trade ike and Murphy for hellickson and Joyce....which us a steal for the rays....and were also getting Cesar Izturis to be a compliment to tejada as well as freddy Garcia. ...ughh went does spring training start....hasn't Garcia been in the mets before?

Funny Granderson has already been indoctrinated  into talking about "the plan" lol

when is everybody on here gotta learn that the only deals the meds will make is to get someone who is making a minimum salary regardless of who they get back Tejada was persona non grata last year. Now he is the answer to our short stop problems. so the chance that this week nets playah upgrade is about the same as me getting a date with a swimsuit model. They are actually worried about$7,000,000 is in salary tween the two first basemanand Murph.they shot a load on grandyso they think we should be happy. If this is the roster I will keep my hands in my pocket just like they are doing

Couple of things I am getting sick of...hearing about Granderson because it shows this organization  has done nothing but add  Granderson  and  the same tired Ike  rumors

! Sandy Alderson get something done for christ sake and what I mean is something creative like you know the D-Backs  Angels and White Sox GM type creatively? The problem with Sandy is he is too left brained ..too logical afraid of outside of the box! I can't wait till the day he is gone!

I know its a poor excuse, but has Ike ever had line up protection?

They are not trading Ike and Murphy. It is simply a salary dump to recoup 9 mil of Grandersens salary.

looks more and more we're going to be stuck with this miserable bum at first again next year, what a let down!

Why would the Brewers trade a top prospect for ike? Come on... lol. . If this fails maybe we can offer ike to the Tigers for. .... Let's say...Miguel cabrera? The mets have to be reasonable in who they ask for. . Besides I'd rather keep ike and trade duda. Keep murphy and go get a shortstop(drew) and another corner outfielder(chin or cruz). That would be a pretty good line-up!

1-murphy

2-drew

3-wright

4-grandy

5-cruz or chin

6-ike (or c.young)

7-c.young (or ike)

8-d'anaud

Young and lagaras as 4th outfielder and young can play 2nd as well.. And that is really not breaking the bank!

JC

enough with these rumors,  can we just play Ike at first and Duda at SS

nvmets10
nvmets10

Of course the Brewers feel Hart is their best option - he actually has a good track record. God forbid we would try to sign him. No, can't have that. Why bother when you can give Lucas Duda yet another try?

jweiss

Am I the only one who thinks they shouldn't trade Davis? I would only trade him for a SS under control for at least 3 years. I cannot right off a soon to be 27 yr old. He is just about to enter his prime. I really think we have to give him one more year to see what he can do. He has show that he can hit atleast 250 his first year in the big leagues. and he also has show that he can hit 30+ homeruns in a year. What if next year he figures out how to do both at the same time? I mean sign me up for 250/30 anyday. Also we are selling low. Teams with a small budget as should only be selling off when players are at their peak. ei David Murphy.

Sandy haters?

More to hate?

Not looking for anything sexy for your liking...

Just sign Loney and bring Ike to camp...

No takers by April, cut him...

I don't have the answer, but maybe the front office has a three-way trade in mind to maximize their needs?

Wishful thinking if nothing else...

Matt Joyce career vs. righties

1475 ABs,  91 2B, 11 3B, 71 HR, 218 RBI, .260 BA, .354 OBP, .835 OPS

Chris Young career vs. lefties966 ABs, 65 2B, 4 3B, 44 HR, 123 RBI, .262 BA, .363 OBP,  .837 OPS

Trading Davis for Joyce wouldn't be a bad move...a platoon of Joyce and Young can actually be pretty productive...

Question for you guys, unrelated to 1B but very much a factor in our roster depth:

Cesar Puello… yes he was busted for PEDs but he had that nutso AA season this year. Perhaps if he didn't pop positive he would have been on the team in Sept call ups, if not earlier.  What is your prognosis on this guy? He is still on the Mets AA roster I believe. Do you think he will make the team IF he goes nuts in Spring Training still?

anthony G. Decesare

Great so with Milwaukee out the best were going to be able to do for Ike and Murphy is to Tampa for Matt Joyce and Jeremy Hellickson...wonderful what a steal for Tampa...

JC

I get that they want to trade Ike but on what planet are they on where Lucas Duda will be a competent starting First Baseman.  This is NY, why must our owners let it come down to either Ike or Duda, its quite sad.

Bud Britton
Bud Britton

If that's the case, why would you want Duda who hits the same with less power? Check stats?

metfan8669

@anthony G. Decesare - lol... The only deal I will accept where we give up Murphy is for Price.  Of course it will have to include Davis as well as some prospects.  If what you suggest happens I would not approve.

gothamsane
gothamsane

Maybe Murph's glove will only get worse and if he peaked offensively, the value tanks next year. Like trading a prospect, you get extra value back on the the other team's GM's aspiration that the player will get even better.

Maybe Sandy refuses to depend on Murph as the 2nd base starter long term, get max value now?

Many say Murph is great super sub in AL.

JC

no, hes only played for the Mets

logical, yes, but that only works if they plan on spending money and remember this is the Mets

@JC Great idea! Except, Ike has the better arm, he has to go to SS.

Oakland had the same idea, although it may have been his injury that prevented him from succeeding in that role.

gothamsane

Range, Arm, Runs scored?

How much you pay two players to platoon?

Is CY effective only as platoon or you give him 25% of OF starts? 120 games?

That looks good for Joyce, almost 3 seasons worth..

But splits for late inning men on base in tight games, none of us really knows...

@md92468 I will be pissed if we make that trade. Selling so low.

Davis is done in NY - he needs a change of scenery. The players are comparable statistically career wise. It's a fair trade.

nyijkm

@caliboy @nyijkm Well I mean, if he puts up his typical minor league .300/.357 with all those HRs in ST. I just haven't seen many fans writing about him on here, and besides the Biogensis thing, he looks like the Yasiel Puig of AA. Any offensive prowess like that would help tremendously at this point..

metfan8669
metfan8669

@gothamsane - Of course he will get less than $12/yr. -- You need to chill buddy.   I don't know who bbref is, but I'll trust my eye rather than listen to you, bbref and sabermetrics.

And also, it is Ike that is three years younger.

Barring the period of time that Ike's head wasn't where it should be Ike can bring great defense at first.   Last year he just wasn't right.  I think he can regain that form in the field for sure.  The confidence will come. (Just probably not in a Mets uniform.)

JC
JC

Loney is actually Older than Murphy

gothamsane
gothamsane

But not a defensive liability, that maybe the GMs only concern for Murphy, not HRs.

gothamsane
gothamsane

Loney's WAR much higher, three years younger, post season hitter, much better range, not playing at reduced workload ... But I was wrong about the money... He will get less than $12M per...

Source: bbref

Sorry for losing my top...

JC
JC

Loney is the Murphy of 1B......decent hitter with essentially no pop

metfan8669
metfan8669

@gothamsane - You would pay him 3 yrs at $12/yr?  -- The Rockies signed Morneau for 2 yrs and a total of $14m and we have Ike for a year at a fraction of that amount and keeps flexibility.

So, while I like Loney to a degree, that kind of money is too much.  IMO.

gothamsane

Sandy thinks he has an outfield...

He wants med term in years controllable pitching for pen...

The bat upgrade may only happen at first base...

Or two years for Drew...

The Angels just made a great trade, for pitching...

In fantasy leagues You can trade CY but Sandy will not..

KMO82
KMO82

@nyijkm @caliboy He will start the year in AAA and be there til September unless someone gets hurt but he is very much a real prospect and is one of the reasons we picked up Young on a one-year deal so 2015 will be open for him to be the possible starting RF.
