The Mets continue to talk with teams about 1B Ike Davis, who has reportedly drawn interest from the Rays, Astros, Orioles, Brewers and Rockies, among other teams.
The Brewers still hope to re-sign free-agent Corey Hart, and reports indicate they may get a deal done (Haudricourt, Dec. 10). However, if he doesn’t decide within the next day or so, they may push to acquire Davis before the end of the week, according to insiders (Martino, Rubin, Dec. 10).
11:26 pm: The Brewers feel Hart is their best option, it’s just a matter of getting the money right in his deal (Haudricourt, Dec. 10).
11:22 pm: The Brewers love Hart, and are working to get a deal done (Heyman, Dec. 10).
In talks for Davis, the Mets asked the Brewers for young, controllable pitching, such as prospect Tyler Thornburg (Duquette, Dec. 10).
Meanwhile, while the Rays like Davis (Martino, Dec. 9), he may not be their first choice (Rubin, Dec. 10). They are also interested in Marlins 1B Logan Morrison (Heyman, Dec. 9) and Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland (Martino, Nov. 26). Nevertheless, the Mets and Rays continued talking Tuesday (Puma, Dec. 10).
It was reported last month that Tampa will consider swapping Davis for OF Matt Joyce (Topkin, Nov. 27).
