Ike Davis 9 (Baron)

Ike Davis Rumors: Brewers, Rays want Loney, will settle for Ike

The Mets are unlikely to trade Ike Davis, before the end of this week’s Winter Meetings (Rubin, Dec. 11).

The Brewers and Rays are most interested (Martino, Dec. 11) and the one that doesn’t sign free-agent 1B James Loney will probably end up acquiring Davis (Rubin, Dec. 11). The Pirates are less interested in Davis, though they are pursuing Loney (Rubin, Dec. 11).

In talks for Davis, the Mets asked the Brewers for RHP Tyler Thornburg (McCalvy, Dec. 11Duquette, Dec. 10), and the Rays may have offered OF Matt Joyce (Topkin, Nov. 27).

Also on Wednesday, the Mariners acquired 1B Corey Hart and 1B Logan Morrison, which led to speculation they could push to move 1B Justin Smoak (Sherman, Dec. 11), which would could further complicate the market for Davis.

My guess, Mets waiting for Colon physical, will add Gee or Niese and prospects if needed in a deal to get Segura.

Mets should do: C- d'Arnaud 1B- Murphy, someone via trade 2B- Murphy or EY Jr 3B- Wright SS- Not tejada (best way to go is via trade in my opinion) LF- Chris Young CF- Lagares RF-Granderson

Best SP on the market is ours. Well done.

Seattle has been a nice help for Mets this off-season. 1st them signing Cano pushed the Mets to get the Granderson deal done before the ripple effect could circle someone back. Now they take 2 1B targets off the market which hopefully facilitates Ike finally getting moved.

big dirty......see definition of insanity in previous post.  Maybe your goal is a solid 80 wins next year...most of us would try and shoot a bit higher...like 85!

I would not be in any hurry to deal Ike at this point. He has had a 30 hr 90 rbi year for this team at Citi field. Lets see if the coaching staff and ike can get on teh same page and get it fixed.

Matt Joyce for Ike? DO IT!! NOW!!! TAKE IT and get on your knees and thank the Stengel gods that someone in the Tampa Bay front office wants to buy the Brooklyn Bridge.

Joyce is 9x the ball player Ike is (whoa....sorry Matt).....DO IT!  While they're still serving the Bacardi in the Tampa suite!

paulio Davis even for Logan Morrison?  GM's see a 32 homer guy?.............................Ike a better pedigree?  Have you watched our faithful Muts these past two seasons? Good ol' Ike was more clueless at  the plate than Mrs. Boo-Boo....two seasons...that's 12 months of everyday baseball with an entire off season to relax, re-program, tinker, tailor.....Definition of insanity: doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.   Hence....some lawn sprinklers, some good rakes for the grounds crew.....gotta be some half-filled boxes of Big League Chew in the dugouts...save the Wildon'ts some petty cash.

I hope this does not backfires on the Mets.

Ike Davis' Swing looks pretty good in this picture. Maybe we should keep him.

Are teams holding onto rosin bags and bat weights?  How 'bout an old mascot costume? Anything?  An anthem singer? Old Halloween candy? A few of those Gatorade coolers?

A case of frozen pretzel dough (too much!), 3 usher/vendor vests? 2000 Heinz relish packets? Gotta be something we can get for Davis.

As much as Mets fan love to be as negative as possible in valuing their players, I think Ike's and Logan Morrison's values should be similar. Morrison has been consistently mediocre to bad for years, and is close in age. I know we had to watch Ike struggle game-by-game for the last 2 years, but rival GMs see 32 HR in 2012 and take that into account. Also, Logan Morrison is one year farther removed from a good season. I'm not sure where Carter Capps ranks in value/prospect status, but based on his stats I think the Mets can expect a similar value in return, maybe better. Ike is the better pedigree as well.

Apparently the signing of hart was for 5 mil base, with 8 mil in incentives. And the trade for Morrison was for Seattle RHP Carter Capps.  So that's basically more than you'll get for Ike.  Just to give people a baseline.

I can't believe I have buy the MLB xtra inns package to watch this team! Too bad they don't sell it by the month, I'm usually done watching this trash by July... but still come visit this website everyday! what the hell is wrong with me??

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Brewers have been talking to free agent first baseman James Loney.Milwaukee just lost Corey Hart to the Mariners via free agency and will now explore the other first base options. Loney found new life with the Rays in 2013, batting .299/.348/.430 with 13 home runs and 75 RBI in 158 games. He hit just .249/.293/.336 in 2

Not so fast on ike!

This shows you how little Davis and Duda are being considered out there.  It seems that the rest of the Major League teams are going out of there way to avoid dealing for either one of them.  Like I said before, the only team that sees value in Davis and Duda is the Mets.  The only way the Mets are going to rid themselves of either player would be to outright release them.  Alderson just better get used to paying both of them.  No payroll will be freed up because of them.

Michael Milne
Michael Milne

If your going to trade Ike, than go ahead and trade Duda as well. How the mets can feel good putting duda at 1b or platooning him w/ satin etc... I just don't get. How about going and getting a legit/proven 1b instead of going the cheap route and settling on someone who just hasn't played well in NY and might not have the personality to ever succeed here.

Logan Morrison, Justin Smoak, James Loney, Mitch Moreland, the ghost of Wally Pip but, for God's sake, don't leave us nothing but Ike Davis!

We hear you  MLB - loud and clear!

I wonder if we could put Thornburg in the pen.

Twitter people are so stupid.  Boras spoke to Wilpon and they all think it is about Drew.  It is not.  Bruce Chen is on the Mets board (per the other day) and he is a Boras client too.  I bet that is who he talked about.

rockyjr

Why would the Mets want Joyce from the Rays for Ike? He is a 4th outfielder. They already have a 4th outfielder (EYJ)

This Thornburg kid is interesting, but what worries me is that he is 5'11" and 190lbs. Thats not really the most durable pitchers frame.

He has at separate times been rated as having the best curveball and best changeup in some of the minorleague levels he has gone through. Thats pretty impressive to have 2 pitches rank that well.

He was also ranked as high as the #2 prospect in the Brewers system.

So yes, he's a good get for Ike Davis, especially if the money gets Stephen Drew.

We'd need a new hitting coach, but I agree.  I personally do not think Dave Hudgens is working.  A blanket offensive strategy at the plate makes it really easy to beat you.

@drmetfan I think it's pretty clear that Project Ike as a NY Met has failed. If he gets traded and goes on to have a strong season with another team, well, good on him. He's young enough and talented enough to where that's a possibility, it's just not happening for him here.

DMMP

@Jim Gandolfo You have to understand... Sandy is holding out for the teams best LF crowd vendor in terms of sales. Need to recoup some money for the wilpons. Most teams think that's too much.

@paulio Honestly, he's a similar guy to Thornburg, all said and done.

@anthony G. Decesare I'm sure they will go and sign Loney, why not the guy had a good year last year in TB as opposed to Ike who has struggled the last two seasons. Heck I wish the mets would sign Loney and trade both Ike and Duda (and over rating Satin).

DMMP
DMMP

@flmetsfan There are better options on the market. Of course other teams are going different routes.  They are seen as "Plan C" kind of names.  But... there is always at some point a market for plan C's...

@flmetsfan Over the Summer I heard Ike described as "a poor man's Adam Dunn."  Need I say more.

@Mickey Jennifer Wind I bet they discussed both honestly... if only just for due diligence.

Sandy is a BIG believer in the young, unproven pitchers and 4th outfielders win championships school of thought!

....................
....................

@rockyjr they have two 4th OF. actually maybe as many as 4 if you include Lagares, Chris Young, and even Duda. basically anyone that plays OF for the NYM, not named granderson, is of 4th OF value to me.

Mickey Jennifer Wind
Mickey Jennifer Wind

@rockyjr mainly because if they do not get a buyer for anything they are going to cut him and get nothing.  He will be released this spring if not traded.

@davidus1 Brewers just got Justin Smoak. No longer interested in Ike.

@davidus1 I'm sure the Brewers would have many more concerns about Ike Davis than the Mets would have about Thornburg.

flmetsfan

When you can choose from Mark Trumbo, Corey Hart, Logan Morrison, Mitch Moreland, and James Loney you don't need to worry about "Plan C".  Davis will languish most of the season on the Mets bench while Duda can enjoy a lovely Summer in Las Vegas.  ....OR...Alderson just dumps him for a mid-level prospect like Ariel Pena.

anthony G. Decesare
anthony G. Decesare

How will the mets save 3 million by cutting ike? Mets will go to arbitration with ike or settle before and get about 3.5 mil for the year, they cut him....that money is guaranteed.....this isn't the nfl....

DMMP
DMMP

@Anthony Testa Mets already have many 4th OF's, I can't even count them all on one hand (Brown, Den Deckker, Nieuwenhuis, Young (really should be),EYJ, Technically duda can be....) We really don't need another.

DMMP

@nwmets @ton ... Seattle is operating like a big market team in a mid market (which is how they traditionally operated.) Guess they are adapting to the times like most other teams...

I haven't read that anywhere and been watching mlb network all day and saw nothing about it. Where are you getting your info from?

Mickey Jennifer Wind
Mickey Jennifer Wind

@flmetsfan no he won't they will cut Davis in Spring and save all but 600K of the contract.  He will not be there  Duda will stll start and that is how it will end and fansd will laugh at how this was all a plot to save $3m in payroll instead of making a trade,

Mickey Jennifer Wind
Mickey Jennifer Wind

@anthony G. Decesare you are incorrect.  MLB analysis stated otherwise.  It is not guaranteed until the regular season starts.  If you cut them before opening day you do not pay the full amount.  It would be about $650,000.
