Granderson returns to lineup, leading off

Curtis Granderson returns to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Padres and will bat leadoff and play center field.

Granderson was left out of the starting lineup in the three previous games with a left calf strain, though he did pinch hit in Saturday’s 5-0 loss to the Padres. Granderson is playing center with Andre Brown in left and Bobby Abreu in right.

Granderson is also batting leadoff for the first time this year, the eighth leadoff batter for the Mets on the season. Granderson, who is batting .281 in 135 at bats with seven home runs and 23 RBI with a .389 on-base percentage since May 1, has extensive leadoff experience early in his career with the Detroit Tigers.

The majority of Granderson’s at bats this season — 156 — have come in the cleanup spot.

I have the answer! The Mets sold their soul to the devil with those '99 and '00 teams. That's the only way that team could have made the World Series and now we're paying the price! I knew we had to be cursed I just didn't know why til now! I know that's a very random thought but I had to share.

Off topic, but if duda or tejada are starters on this team next year I'm boycotting from day one

Aren't we still paying Bobby Bonilla? Maybe we should bring him back lol

When De Grom pitches, I say just have him lead off.  Colon too.  The comic opportunities if nothing else makes another appearance worth it.

What no CY in today's lineup!!! I feel cheated! These aren't my Mets :)

It's so hard to watch this team on TV. I'm amazed people spend all this money on going to the ballpark including parking and concessions.

So exactly when does Duda go on a hot streak? Has he had one this year?

Thank you Metsblog for sharing Granderson's stats since May, I'd been meaning to check on it.

What more does Terry have to do to get fired?  Take his shirt off and threaten to fight David?

This may seem lame but for father's day I am watching game seven of 86 series. And I was there as a 19 year old kid in the upper decks. Here's to better times. Happy fathers day.

So who is supposed to be protecting Wright?

Ok, so who should bat leadoff on this team?

Why would you have a guy who's never batted leadoff, with a calf strain, and propensity for striking out, bat leadoff?  I find this fascinating.

@citifield Its the same for the other teams we play. The mets just dont have much talent.

It really says something when the tickets are cheaper than a hot dog. And worth even less.

Joe Paulson

@citifield It's possible of course since Flores can play 2nd and he is one of the few players who can get a good return.  Hopefully doesn't happen.

@hankincolo He isn't much of a streaky guy. He's been right around the same all year. he has a couple good games, a couple bad ones, and a couple mediocre games every week. The Dude still has driven in 32 runs and has 20 XBHs in 3/4 the ABs that Wright or Murphy have.

@getalife Mets do not want to take on additional salary so he's probably good until next year, when they find some other loser for money to take the job

LOL. Stop doing what Alderson is telling him to do and/or publicly call the Wilpons out for being cheap.

Is it possible to score -1 runs? Lolz

Great team, that played with fire. Enjoy, brother.

@getalife  Bobby Abreu, one of the few guys hitting consistently, is behind him today.  As to the pitching inside or whatever stuff, that is up to Mets pitchers.

Scott Boras?

@getalife Protection wont save Wright. A team that scores more runs would be needed for someone to protect Wright. Right now, he's just another batter.

Boy, this was a really clever and intelligent mock lineup...

He actually used to lead off in Detroit, but that was like 5 years ago

getalife

@Macacawitz He has batted lead-off quite a bit, just not for a while.  He has a high OBP since May 1.  However, he is supposed to be protection for Wright and drive in runs...

Why the hell not? lol. It's not like anything else is working

The next move is the old Billy Martin trick: pick the names out of a hat.

Dana Smith

@Macacawitz What? Granderson batted leadoff in his early days with the Tigers. If his calf was still bothering him, he wouldnt be playing. You use your calves to hit and run, no matter where you are in the lineup. He may strike out a lot, but he also walks a lot as well. Really, it isn't a bad idea.

Olerud42
Olerud42

@Joe Paulson @citifield By "good return" do you mean another prospect like Wheeler or D'Arnaud who comes up and is mediocre to bad in the majors?

bleck319

Not clever. Facts. Sad. Depressing. No hope.

Dana Smith

@Mikey Jocks All you had to do was read the short article really. But Macacawitz failed at that. It really isnt a terrible idea.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@getalife @Macacawitz He has done that, but we need to score runs too, and if no one is on base, how can we score any? He has some speed and is a good baserunner. Have abreu and duda protect right for now.

@citifield @ifti99 I think we're all fairly certain now based on this circus that when they open their wallets, theres nothing in there.

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@bleck319 I see no facts in this. Just your misguided opinion. It sucks that they aren't good, but playing pro ball at this level isn't easy. Every team has multiple players who would be considered AAA. Just look at the Padres.

1harris1
1harris1

Oh c'mon Bleck. Duda gets rid of the ball on the 3-6-3 double play as well as anybody. Dice K is 3-0. Our catchers are at the very least AAA ballplayers.

Stop being so damn negative.

Max Denby
Max Denby

In Terry's tiny brain he thinks getting Granderson extra at bats will help "get him going"... I love that the guy we signed to bat cleanup is now our lead off hitter.

bleck319
bleck319

No facts. Seriously. You are Baghdad Bob.

Chris Young has more strikeouts than hits. Granderson strikes out more than Steve Urkel with Laura.

Duda is pathetic. His defense sucks. Check his WAR. He has below average pathetic power. We are lucky if he will hit 20 HRs and drive in 70 runs. A f@@@ing disgrace.

Tejada has no power, average, or speed. He's not MLB caliber.

Brown is an AAA ballplayer. He's never had a successful full season as an everyday player.

The catching situation is an embarrassment. The two guys can't hit the side of a barn and have no business playing in MLB.

Other teams have crappy players, but the vast majority of teams have much deeper rosters than the Mets.

This team has more holes than almost any Met lineup since the early 80s.
