Curtis Granderson in pain, suffers major bruises from crash with OF wall

Curtis Granderson left Monday’s game with bruises to his left forearm, rib cage and knee after he crashed into the outfield wall in the first inning.

X-rays were negative, although multiple beat reporters said on Twitter  that Granderson appeared in lots of pain after the game, struggling to dress and walk.

“I hit the wall with my forearm, which then lodged my elbow into my chest area,” he said. “I hit the pole that had a little bit of padding on it. Luckily, there was a little bit or else it could have been worse. But the worst part I could have hit, I ended up hitting.”

I’ll assume Juan Lagares ends up on the disabled list. In either case, I bet we see Eric Young Jr., Andrew Brown and Kirk Nieuwenhuis or Lucas Duda in the starting outfield tonight. What outfield? That outfield. Man, when it rains it pours, right? Yikes… Granderson will be OK, but it reads like it will take him a few days. The team is off Thursday. So, days off Tuesday and Wednesday, and with Kirk on the roster, it will get them to Friday, when Chris Young joins the team. Hopefully, by Saturday, Chris Young and Granderson can be in the starting lineup again.

Its okay it could be a lot worse its just one series till CY comes up, and they won the first game of the series, so not that bad of shape. Hopefully they can steal another. Im thinking the tonight lineup will be :

1.EYJ

2.Murphy

3.Wright

4.Duda

5. Kirk

6. Brown

7. D'Arnaud

8. Tejada

Hope Granderson is not seriously hurt.

Hope Lagares isn't on the shelf too long.  He's really a lot of fun to watch.

duda is hitting better than anyone on the team with 11 hits  in 30 at bats with 3 homers and 7 rbi's. and to think you thought he was terrible, so far he's making you guys eat your words!

So for every win we have to trade 2 outfielders. I don't think that's gonna work, even if we only do get 70-75 wins. Lagares and Granderson  out anywhere from days to months and Duda in the OF. OMG!  SMH

I'm actually surprised Grandy didn't break that wrist.  He hit that post HARD. But regardless...a deep bone bruise to your wrist for a "power" hitter? you might as well sign him up for TJ surgery or something...

Bring up Den Dekker.  He hit .350 in Spring and didn't get a chance.

Major bruises take longer than a couple days to heal.

So far you're right that he's a bigger loss. If they are out for any period of time, that statement becomes highly speculative. Objectively I'd say its even unlikely. However, when has an aging slugger with a declining batting average ever proved to be a good acquisition for the Mets?

Damn it, that wasn't there when I posted!! It's not fair.

Feel terrible for Lageres. He's been our best player. He's out most exciting player. He plays hard. He's a bigger loss then Granderson.

I've never been the first commenter before. I wish I had something to say [insert caustic comment about Grandy and Jason Bay or something]

@rodd  John Buck had 9 bombs and 25 RBI's by the end of April last year - cooled off considerably after that.

Not hating on Duda by any means - I don't mind him - but give it time chief.

@rodd It's April. If he keeps it up, great, but you can put down the Duda pom-poms.

@C.K. Dexter Haven   When he returns, he might be wearing a wrist splint or some kind of stabilizing. He might just be limited to swinging at strikes instead of chasing garbage out of the zone. This could help. (how's that for optimism?)

Until Den Dekker proves he can hit major league pitching he doesn't warrant a call up.

Spring stats are meaningless. How's he done in the minors over the last year?

@Bob Burketodd  Have you ever seen him play in the OF? Either you are sarcastic or clueless.

@rodd Duda is a clown in the OF...

@Frank Tangorra I'm pretty sure den Dekker would be out producing Granderson.
