MLB: Texas Rangers at New York Mets

Carlyle headed to Citi Field, Gee may start for Niese on Wednesday

Triple-A reliever Buddy Carlyle will join the Mets before Sunday’s game against the Rangers.

Jon Niese is likely to be pot on the disabled list with a shoulder issue (ESPN, July 5).

Niese left his start Friday after just 12 pitches when he was hit in the back by line drive. He did not want to leave the game. He told reporters he felt fine after the game and hoped to make at least two more starts before the All Star break.

In the event Niese is put on the DL, Dillon Gee will likely start in his place on Wednesday night against the Braves.

Gee tossed 75 pitches in his third rehab start Sunday and later told reporters at Citi Field he is 100% ready to return to the Mets rotation.

Anyone who is led to believe that 2015 will be the year the Mets compete really has to look at the team we are displaying right now. Mr Wright & Mr Granderson are both heading into their years of decline. Mr C Young is a goner. We have a 1st basemen who already is in his peak years of 28. The most we will see from Duda is a possible 25 -30 hr season but a 250-260 avg. Our catcher seems to be turning it around? Murphy is our 290-300 hitter with possible 15 hrs. He is also in his peak years. We need a shortstop..left fielder ..if the Mets do indeed start turning it around next year don't think for a second that they are playoff bound. 2016 rolls around and Mr Wright and Grandy are older. They will soon need a 3rd basemen and right fielder and I truly believe we will still be hearing wait till next year. The ownership does not like to spend. Where are these replacements going to come from? The Mets do have pitching but it's not a crap load as some may think. Harvey when he comes back and IF he's as good prior to getting hurt...great...I'd keep Gee and deGrom. The rest I'd offer up in trades but is it enough? Next years free agent market looks really thin. The Mets will not trade for Starlin Castro. He is already committed 48million thru 2018 but so is Wright & Grady. If they did not go after Cruz or Drew who thus far has been a disaster how can this team start competing with the management we have? It truly is a real head scratcher for us Met fans.

So on Fri night Niese said he wanted to come back early and pitch on Mon or Tue to get 2 starts in before the AS break and now on Sun morning he's going on the DL for a completely different issue than what knocked him out of the game in the 1st inning on Fri. Only the Mets. So much for everyone who criticized TC for taking Niese out of that game against his wishes too.

Since Carlyle did so well the first time, definitely a great move by a great management team

Niese is made out of paper mache.  Matz can't get here soon enough.

ENOUGH !!!!! If the Mets are truly rebuilding then do it the right way and trade away Wright, Murphy, Colon, Granderson, Dice K, cut Chris Young, cut Bobby Abreu and bring up the kids.

"pot on the disabled list" classic metsblog spelling error. does anyone proof read their work on here anymore? this blog has gone down the tubes

Collins saids that Niese has not been sharp which makes him think is the shoulder. Is this clown counting Niese last start. Because before that start Niese last 2 starts was 6 IP , 3 ER for a Win, 6 IP , 3 ER for a Win. So what is Collins really talking about.

Oh, Buddy Carlyle--now we've got a good chance at the pennant!  Even if he's up here for only half a year, he's a certain Cy Young winner....

"Jon Niese is likely to be pot on the disabled list with a shoulder issue"

I see a misprint here. I think the blogger meant to write:

Jon Niese is likely to DO pot on the disabled list with a shoulder issue

You know there is something rotten in Mets land when our daily newspaper the Star Ledger has kept the mets off of their front sports pages for 2 straight days.

Rangers and Mets have the same record.....hahaha. What a team.

At this point the season is over.  Trade Colon and Murphy and Gee for a bat.  Sit Tejada and let Flores play 75 games IN A ROW  at ss & 2b.  Bring up Matt Reynolds and give him a half season at ss or 2b Play Nieuwenhuis in left EVERY DAY and see what happens.  Bring up Montero and put him in the rotation for 15 starts.   U have NOTHING TO LOSE with these moves.

the mets are just trying to run Niese out of town maybe the should try running the wilpon, Alderson and Collins out. Then maybe they will put a winning team on the field

can we put the midget TC on the DL

Now what !!!! Niese got hit on the back said he was ok and now his shoulder hurts. The Mets are mentioning DL even before Niese gets checked out. Sounds and smells like Bull*****

Can we just end the season and start over?

This is why when Niese is healthy and teams are interested you trade him. He is always hurt.

@Paul Grzymalski are you complaining about the 4 innings he pitched this year?

We did that the last 2 years, the kids weren't ready. Mets still based on young pitching but need 2 more vets while we wait for the kds.

What kids the ones that MIGHT make a difference just got to AA,they are 2years away at least.

@Mont5 . .  they did bring up some of the kids and they brought their baby bats. Lol.

Did anybody seeing Neise making a throwing motion when they took him out the other day? That was't about getting drillied in the back it was that he had nothing on his fastball. He was in pain and he couldn't get his fastball over 84mph. He usually throw close to 90.

Real smart talk from a manager trying to trade this guy. This team is the worst run team in baseball.

@brian2740 If he wasn't fired after the last series against the braves, I think its safe to assume that his job is safe for the rest of the season.

Oh yeah, patient fans on the internet want to dump players who have one bad at bat. Who's going to sign up for waiting another 6 years? No one

What are you talking about this is the same rebuild.Sandys players are not all here yet.As far as 2014 goes as the big turnaround you will have to show me where he said that. What I know he said was he would have money to sign free agents due to salaries coming off the books.Which he did. He never said the payroll would increase to any significant degree. You can't deny that Colon and Grandy have been more productive than Bay and Santana were in 2013.So he has improved the team.If you think a rebuild from were the Mets were when he took over would take3 years for them to contend, yen end to rethink that.A rebuild through the minor leagues is going to take 5to 7 years. It always has and always will.

Steve Finelli

@hubie_wc @Steve Finelli Harvey, Niese, Wheeler, Montero & Mejia is "no pitching for next year"??? GMAFB.  If u r counting on Gee and Colon next year then resolve yourself to another losing season.

Raymond Kim
Raymond Kim

@BiggieTKB @Steve Finelli I don't know why we are trading Murphy, he is one of the few players who hit at citifield.  Unless you can guarantee that the Wilpons wont resign him, keep him at second base.  Trade Colon and Gee (hopefully he looks like he did before the DL stint).  If cubs pulled off a trade for a Overall top 20 prospect for that haul, could those 2 not bring us back a major league ready power hitter?

Ed Yano
Ed Yano

Your kidding rightColon and Gee might be worth 1 of those Cub pitchers and a major league power hitter is worth more than any prospect.A prospect has not done anything yet while a major league power hitter is what you hope the prospect will become.

Steve Finelli
Steve Finelli

@Raymond Kim @BiggieTKB @Steve Finelli No Colon's 41 and Gee is a back of the rotation guy. U can play Flores at 2b he has much more power than Murphy and give Matt Reynolds a shot at ss at least until Cecchini (no.1 pick) is ready.....2 yrs maybe.  Syndergaard in NOWHERE NEAR READY for the show.

Raymond Kim
Raymond Kim

@Ed Yano I am not sure what exactly you are saying.  I said NEAR major league ready power hitter.  That means prospect as they would still be a minor league player with either limited or zero big league experience.

Raymond Kim
Raymond Kim

@Steve Finelli And what is Jason Hammel?  Bartolo Colon still eats innings, and the mets can eat 2 million of next years contract(Don't say we won't do it because we sent 4 million to SF in the Beltran deal) to get a better return.  Dillon gee is still very affordable and is under team control for 2 years.  I didnt say we were going to get someone like addison russel, but a near ready corner outfield prospect with power is not impossible, considering the fact that many teams think they are "in it" this year.  If David Price does not get moved, Colon and Gee will look pretty damn good.  If Price does get moved, there are plenty of starting pitchers who will go down with injuries from now until the trade deadline.

Steve Finelli
Steve Finelli

@Raymond Kim Do u really know what u r talking about.  The Oakland deal WAS ALL ABOUT SAMARDZIJA......PERIOD.  Colon shows his age more every time he goes out on the mound.  His era in his last two starts is SEVEN!  Gee is coming off an injury and hasn't pitched since.  What do u really think their current value is??......SERIOUSLY DID U EVER PLAY THIS GAME?.......BEYOND HS?.......BEYOND COLLEGE?.........?  I can answer yes to all three.  If u don't include Murphy u get NOTHING.  As for David Price......I live in Tampa and he WILL BE TRADED.

Raymond Kim
Raymond Kim

@Steve Finelli @Raymond Kim Please don't use I played college baseball or minor league baseball in your argument.  That would infer that front office gurus, such as Andrew Friedman, Theo Epstein Jon Daniels have no clue what they are doing.  Be a little more optimistic, it is a sellers market this season.  I am not kidding myself, we are only getting back a prospect in a deal, but close to major league ready is what I indicated, my wishlist.  Steve Finelli...you remind me of Al Bundy with your talk of playing the game.  It is kind of pathetic.

Raymond Kim
Raymond Kim

You know what, I apologize for that last comment.  I don't know why I am arguing with people about the Mets.  This is all make believe.  The players and ownership care very little about my opinions or 99% of the other people here.  lol.  Steve, let us just hope for a playoff birth under this Sandy regime/Post madoff era.
