Thursday’s pitching preview: Hefner vs. Cloyd

Jeremy Hefner (2-6, 4.99 ERA) will start for the Mets tonight.

Hefner last started on September 8 when he was lit up by the Braves for five runs, eight hits, and two walks in only 2 2/3 innings. He allowed a run in one inning of relief against the Brewers last Saturday. Overall, Hefner is 2-5 with a 5.24 ERA in ten starts this season, and 0-1 with a 4.44 ERA in 13 relief appearances. Hefner is 1-0 with a 7.36 ERA in 7 1/3 innings over two appearances and one start this season.

Tyler Cloyd (1-1, 4.95 ERA) will start for the Phillies tonight.

Cloyd is making his fifth start of the season tonight after going 12-1 with a 2.35 ERA in 22 starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Cloyd allowed three runs in three innings in his last start against Houston, and he’s averaging just five innings per start since being called up. Cloyd allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings against the Mets in his big league debut on August 29.
