According to SNY’s Matt Dunn, Jeurys Familia will start a game during the final week of the season.

Collins said while it’s too early to tell whether or not Familia will be a starter or reliever, Familia lacks the third pitch to start at this time.

However, Collins wants Familia to start so he can receive the proper instruction he needs.

Familia, went 9-9 with a 4.73 ERA in 28 starts, having allowed 73 walks and 128 strikeouts in 137 innings for Triple-A Buffalo this season.

That’s fine, but I’d also like to see how Familia does in high leverage situations in relief down the stretch as well. The Mets will likely be looking to retool their bullpen again this winter, and if Familia can prove to be an effective late inning reliever now, they could head into the winter knowing he is at least an option (and a low cost one at that) for the bullpen next season.
