Need to Know: Jonathon Niese served up a home run to the first batter he faced but was removed a couple of hitters later after taking a line drive to the back. Carlos Torres came on in relief to allow two runs over 4 2/3 innings. Torres exited with the lead before Jeurys Familia gave up a run in the seventh to even the score. Travis d’Arnaud hit a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to put the Mets ahead, 6-4. Texas would score once more in the ninth but it wasn’t enough, as the Mets held on. Lucas Duda homered in the first inning, giving him 13 home runs on the year.
Game Ball: d’Arnaud’s big hit in the eighth inning snapped the club’s four-game losing streak.
What’s Next: The Mets and Rangers meet again Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. Bartolo Colon (8-6, 3.88 ERA) starts for the Mets opposite Texas’ Colby Lewis (5-5, 5.71).
