Game Recap: Mets 4, Braves 1

Result: The Mets played another crisp game Wednesday, topping the Braves by the score of 4-1 at Citi Field.

The win gave the Mets their first four-game winning streak since last season.

Need to Know: The Mets took an early 1-0 lead when Daniel Murphy doubled and Lucas Duda delivered a two-out RBI single in the first. In the top of the sixth, Ervin Santana reached on an infield single and was driven in when B.J. Upton hit a two-out double off the wall in center field as the Braves tied things up, 1-1. David Wright led off the seventh with a hustle double, and came in to score on a Kirk Nieuwenhuis sacrifice fly as the Mets went back on top, 2-1. Later in the inning, Travis d’Arnaud hit a two-run homer to left field to give the Mets a 4-1 advantage. Dillon Gee was stellar in his first start back from the disabled list, allowing one run on six hits. He walked one and struck out four. Vic Black and Jenrry Mejia combined to record the last six outs to seal the victory.

Game Ball: Gee, who tossed seven innings of one-run ball in his first start back from a long stint on the disabled list.

TdA has been rock solid since returning to the majors. Let's hope he can keep this up.

Suggestion for fans posting: don't post your silly trade scenarios because it makes you look dopey and frankly, it bores me.

I like the idea of going for trumbo if it costs us a montero then so be it

Just don't be a tease mets, enough of that we've seen what you can do, keep at it.

Hopefully colon doesn't have one of "those" starts later

for those who blasted me about trying to trade for trumbo, he is on rehab assignment with reno. 3HRs in 3 games. He wont cost much. maybe montero and flores. then go get castro or tulo and we are set

I really hope this isn't just one of there usual teases. How about finishing the 1st half on a high, than for once in god knows how many years, come out after the break and have a big 20 game stretch. They have the pitching. They can still make this an interesting season.

Flores came out of the Vegas game early 1-3 with a double.  Anyone know why he came out of the game?

Sweep the Braves then sweep the next series and I'll care again.

Im soo glad that TDA is looking like the prospect that every 1 thought he'd be. He is young with excellent pop. He is only going to get stronger in the near future. And how psyched are we for the stuff Grandy and Duda are now bringing to the table, along the regular hitting of Murph and Wright of late. I think we got something here. All we need is a couple good pieces that are better options and clear upgrades at LF and SS. I don't know if we can get a higher obp from EY, but if we got more pop there and higher obp along with some pop at SS, we'd certainly be in the hunt. Starting Pitching and bullpen pitching has been great a couple more offensive pieces and we'll be kicking around 1st place teams like the Bravos on the regular. I hope Colon brings his A game tom and shit em down. That'll be too much to ask for, but it can certainly happen. Colon has been good overall. So I can say some certainty that we have a good chance at a 4 game sweep. But i'll be more than happy with a 3-1 record inthis series.

Have the Mets signed first round pick Conforto yet?  I believe the deadline is next week.  Probably get done before this homestand is over.

I'm just glad that we're sticking it to the stupid Braves.  I hate those guys.

Nice little winning streak, but this team has burned me too many times to get excited about 4 wins in a row. Let's see them sweep the Braves and then the Marlins, winning out before the All-Star break, then continue winning after the break (for a change). Then, maybe, I'll allow myself to believe again.

70% sure Colon is back in pinstripes next month...but who do we get in return?

cleonsvan

@nymess06  If Trumbo was released today the Mets wouldn't even pick him up off of waivers. Are you people on drugs?

zoddie
zoddie

@nymess06 Mark Trumbo?  You want to get a player clearly worse and more expensive than Lucas Duda?

Dana Smith
Dana Smith

@Dave D'Agnese Trumbo is a one dimensional player. If you looked at his numbers pre-injury in Arizona, Strikeouts Up and Batting Average down. A defensive liability in left field. Do we need to add another 150 Ks to our lineup? We are not getting Tulowitzki. And I'd even pass on Castro, although he would certainly make our offense pretty legit.

zoddie
zoddie

@Dave D'Agnese Trumbo won't cost much because he isn't good.  The guy has a .264 OBP this year (!!) and a lifetime OBP of under .300.  And he's bad defensively.  And he makes almost $5m this year.

Tom Gallagher
Tom Gallagher

@Dave D'Agnese  We're going to pay for Tulo's Colorado production and get his road numbers. In Colorado he's an amazing, outside Colorado he's an upgrade but not nearly as good.

lindro88
lindro88

Tulo? How do you suppose we do that

Merrill Needham
Merrill Needham

Good thing this guy has no say. Flores hasn't shown he can hit ml pitching and, well, he can't play shortstop. I like the idea of Tejada as a utility if, but that us after getting Castro

Merrill Needham
Merrill Needham

I'm not going to be a mean as the other guy, but, I just don't get the arguments. Here goes:

1. Ml relievers are touch and go at vest, and if you take a look, our bullpen is pretty stout.

2. Angel Pagan was given chance after chance. He just couldn't handle playing in NY. Good on him for figuring it out.

3. I'll give you this one although it is worse after the Cruz signing.

4. Hindsight here, but not really. OF wasn't really a need after we signed Granderson. And we will see about Puig long term.

5.Really? Let's see how he does now that his team is playing well.

6. Reyes wasn't staying. He hasn't shown to be worth the money he got anyway. This is a crybaby argument.

7. What was colon, Granderson? Oh, we didn't sign Stephen Drew. How's he playing?

8. Unless you come across a freak, it takes several years before you can see mlb production from your draft picks. The fact that Minaya guys are still coming up should clue you into that.

9. Don't see that either.

darkknight

@Jaime How does he have indecision at the major league level? They traded away Ike, and Tejada plays almost every day. Puello? Really? He has had indecision with Puello? He has been terrible in AAA, he isn't even in the major league conversation.

"#8: Baddish drafting in the 1st round (Nimmo you knew would take long, Cechinni is "average" at best projections...Dom Smith was a good pick, though...Comforto, who knows)"

Nimmo is a top 50 prospect

2 out of 3 good looking prospects is not bad at all

Mejia didn't even know where he was supposed to be.

There are so many things that are so stupid in this long list that I can't possibly address them all. The amount of blind hindsight is too damn high. Please rethink your life.

Doubleday
Doubleday

@Jaime You forgot that he also bad mouthed Ike Davis and Reuben Tejada to anyone who would listen, all last winter.  What kind of GM does that to his own players, then expects to trade them for anyone worth trading for?  I have made no secret of the fact that I think he has poorly handled a home-grown hitting prospect in Wilmer Flores, I am very suspect about the whole Jon Niese thing, and I am not sure what he is up to by leaving Teagarden on the DL.  Lest we forget his ongoing public feud with Matt Harvey.

Mack Ownes
Mack Ownes

@Doubleday Maybe because they were losing by 10 runs or so at the time he was pulled. 15-4 final.

Jody Barnofsky
Jody Barnofsky

@Doubleday If it is not an injury he is probably coming up as team needs a backup infielder or he has been traded.  If he comes up they might dump Chris Young or trade Abreu perhaps.

@nymetsrule You're posting on a Mets blog.  Sounds like you already care.

Chris Molloy

@Jody Barnofsky  No, although it was reported he signed 2 + weeks ago. It's Boras playing games and a kid who is all about his ego. He could be a Major Leaguer next Sept. but he got his bonus. Ask the Red Sox how signing Steve Drew worked out.

@William Bonilla many teams should vie or Colon. Why the Yankees?  How about Brett Gardner?

nashbo

@zoddie @nymess06 29 32 and 34 home runs that last 3 seasons is worse than duda?  What world do you live in?  I wouldn't trade montero for trumbo by any means but trumbo is CERTAINLY much better than Duda.

Dave D'Agnese
Dave D'Agnese

Ok people let's hold onto our 8 starters and leave tejada at ss and heck start Cy in left since you don't wanna trade anyone for anybody and you don't wanna give up montero who might not ever amount to anything for a guy who hits 30 hrs a year. You are all crazy. dont want Castro don't want trumbo. Tulo costs too much blah blah blah I hope you're content with mediocrity and don't complain when we keep losing

Dave D'Agnese
Dave D'Agnese

@lindro88 castro or tulo would require giving up syndergaard plawecki and maybe nimmo. but if you do that your rotation next year is still set with harvey wheeler degrom niese and gee with matz waiting in the wings. and you filled the LF hole and the SS hole. and if duda plays like he has been lately then 1B is fine. TDA is looking like he figured it out. lagares in CF murphy stays we'd be looking good at that point

cleonsvan
cleonsvan

@Merrill Needham  Flores really hasn't had the opportunity at the ML level on a consistent level. He is only 22 and sometimes it takes awhile. Also, if anything, he showed he can handle SS with his excellent hands and strong arm. I'm not saying he is a plus at the position, just noting that he played pretty well up here other than the mental mistakes. You don't know what you're talking about. That's clear.

Max Denby

Mets have lost for 5 years Alderson. End of story.

tom25

@Doubleday @Jaime What about the Jon Niese thing?  He looked terrible those first couple hitters in his last start, he was throwing his fastball 84 and 85.  Clearly, he's not healthy.

Jody Barnofsky
Jody Barnofsky

@Chris Molloy @Jody Barnofsky As a college player he really has no place to go so I guess it will get done this weekend and they will have him at Citi Field saying all the right things.  It would be nuts to hold out a year when all draft pick salaries are slotted now. Boras probably hates the Mets for their ownerships role in the new slotting system.

Tom Gallagher
Tom Gallagher

@rico @William Bonilla  No way we get Gardner for Colon straight up. Gardner steals bases, gets on base, and is one of the most patient hitters in baseball. I'd love it, but there is no way the yankmees go for that.

William Bonilla
William Bonilla

My thought is that the Yankees are desperate for pitching but at the same time I don't think they see themselves in a position to go all out and grab a an Ace like price (plus he is in division)....they have a solid shot at the playoffs but they have to be realistic b too and teams like the As and Blue Jays are just better than them so I see them playing it a little safe picking up a mid tier starter like Colon...but it is the Yankees so I could be dead wrong

Tarheel11
Tarheel11

@Dave D'Agnese First of all no way I give up all those guys for Castro.

But I'm afraid your idea of getting Trumbo and Tulo is a fantasy. You'd be talking about the Met's increasing payroll around 40M for next year and I can't see that happening. Between the 20M for Tulo and the 6-7M Trumbo will get in arb as well as the arb increases for the likes of Gee, Murphy, Meija, Duda, Tejada, etc.

Sorry but I can't see the Met's adding 40M in payroll

zoddie

@Max Denby I wish there was still a vote down option.  You're the reason newspapers print stupid things like, "You can't rebuilt in NYC."
